It wasn’t like I was some business guru. What the hell did I know?

Just as I was about to pick up my bag and leave before he kicked me out, he opened his mouth to speak.

‘Fine,’ he said. ‘You have two weeks to put together a proposal. You said you wanted an opportunity to prove yourself, well here it is. If I like your ideas, I’ll take them to the board and consider keeping you on. If you fail to impress me, you’re out. Understood?’

‘Absolutely!’ I tried to fight my grin but I couldn’t.

‘Well? What are you waiting for? Get on with it. You can stay in the press office, but you’ll solely work on this project and report directly to me on this.’

‘Okay! Thank you!’

‘Close the door on your way out,’ he replied, his face emotionless.

God, he really was a miserable bastard.

But it didn’t matter.

Dana said Mr Devlin didn’t take pity on anyone, but he liked my idea enough to allow me to stay for another two weeks.

I finally had a shot at doing something. Something big.

Now I just had to hope I didn’t mess it up.

BLAKE

As I watched Eleanor stumble out of my office in yet another hideous skirt, to my shame, my cock twitched.

What the fuck?

Why did I keep having a reaction to someone like her?

As much as I hated to admit it, I was impressed.

When I’d asked her what she’d found out about our company, I’d expected her to cite the basics that were easily found on Wikipedia. But she went above and beyond.

Most people would’ve played it safe by only mentioning our achievements. But Eleanor didn’t. She laid it all out there. Warts and all.

Unfortunately, she was right. Not signing mega author Enigma Aura last year was one of the biggest fuck-ups of my career. It’d cost the company dearly.

What made it worse was that the deal was on the table. She was ready to sign. And then because I took my eye off the ball, it fell through.

I wouldn’t make a mistake like that again though.

Anyway, the point was, even though I hated being reminded of my failures, I admired how balanced her research was.

And Eleanor’s app suggestion had potential.

This woman was intriguing.

On the one hand, she was outspoken about the company’s failures, but on the other, she couldn’t even bring herself to say the word orgasm.

Perhaps it was because she was new. That wouldn’t typically be a word that was mentioned in a meeting with your boss, but here it was a common term.

Orgasms were our raison d’être.

The more often we could help our customers come, the more money we made.
