‘Oh my God!’ My nostrils flared. ‘You’d never do that! And the fact that she’d say something like that just to get ahead is awful. Women like her ruin things for those who are really in danger.’

‘Precisely. I was furious. And hurt. I went against my family’s wishes because I trusted her. I… I loved her.’ He hung his head and seeing Blake, who was always so strong, so powerful, so confident, look so broken cracked my heart in two. ‘She pissed all over me and the company. And as you and the whole world knows, Debaucherous became the huge success I knew it would be and my poor judgement lost Sated millions, costing us precious market share and opportunities. All because I couldn’t keep my fucking dick in my pants.’

‘I’m so, so sorry.’ I wrapped my arm around his back. ‘But it wasn’t your fault. She tricked you.’

‘That’s no excuse. I should’ve known better. I shouldn’t have got involved.’

Guilt flooded my veins. I knew that sleeping with me was risky, but I hadn’t realised how deep those risks ran for Blake.

‘I wanted to go after her,’ Blake continued, breaking me out of my thoughts. ‘I wanted to sue her for defamation and breach of contract. But she’d become pally with the person in HR responsible for ensuring that employee contracts are signed and stored securely. Don’t ask me how, but that contract was nowhere to be found.’

‘No!’ My jaw dropped.

‘That HR Manager was promptly fired.’

‘Too right.’

‘The PR and legal team advised against legal action because it’d draw more attention to me. It was controversial enough that my ex had gone to work for a competitor. The last thing they wanted was gossip about me being a predator.’

‘I still can’t believe she stooped so low.’

‘Same here. So although I avoided the legal battle, the fallout with my family and the board was brutal. I was certain I was going to get the boot, but my brothers rallied round me. They said that people made mistakes. The important thing was that I learnt from them. And I assured them I had and I would. That I’d never be stupid enough to let something like that happen again…’

His voice trailed off and my stomach tensed. No wonder he was reluctant to get involved with me. And I’d bulldozed into his office and thrown my pussy at him.

Shit.

‘I’m sorry. I didn’t know. I don’t want to cause any problems. I know how much the company means to you and I’d never want to stand in the way of that. I can leave. Get a plane home right now whilst no one knows about us. The last thing I want is for you to lose your job or upset your family.’

‘No,’ Blake said sternly. ‘I know that we shouldn’t have started something. Particularly in light of what happened before. I told them I wouldn’t get involved with an employee again, so on paper this isn’t just risky. It’s the definition of insanity. It’s pure recklessness. But I can’t seem to stop. Ellie,’ he turned to face me and took my hands in his, ‘I know you’re different. You’re not like her. You’re the best thing that’s happened to me since… I don’t know how long. I don’t want to give you up. I won’t.’

Before I had a chance to speak, Blake’s lips crashed onto mine.

I went to pull away, worried that he was feeling too raw and emotional right now and thinking it was better to give him space, but he pulled me closer and deepened the kiss.

‘I need you, Ellie,’ he growled. ‘I need this. I need us. Just kiss me. Please.’

And so I did.

I let Blake kiss me like his life depended on it.

He pulled away slowly, his eyes fixed on mine, carried me to the bedroom, then laid me down.

‘Can I?’ Blake placed his hands on the hem of my dress.

‘If you’re sure you’re okay?’

‘Positive.’

He undressed me slowly in silence, took off his clothes and got a condom.

Once he’d put it on, Blake straddled me.

When he sank inside my pussy, we both groaned with relief.

Our bodies rocked against one another’s and as he lifted my legs up and I wrapped them around his neck, Blake held eye contact.

There was an intensity to his gaze that I’d never seen before.
