“You shall have whatever you desire, my love.” Gareth settled the baby into the cradle.
“Are you speaking to me or to our son?” Jane smiled at the rapt look that appeared whenever Gareth gazed at the tiny boy.
“Both, sweetheart.” He straightened and came to her side. “He is a beautiful child, Jane. You could not have done better had you tried.” That mischievous look came into his face. “Of course, you did have help.”
“Of course I did. From you, my dear.” Jane leaned back on the pillows and closed her eyes.
“From something else as well, it seems.”
Jane opened an eye to stare up at her husband. “What are you talking about?”
“The lodge.”
Jane shivered. She’d tried to forget their ordeal with Rory for the past seven or eight months. “Why do you say that?”
“Today is the twenty-fourth of May. If you count backward, you will find that the day we made love in the cabin would be the exact day our son was conceived.” The pride on Gareth’s face could have outshone the sun. “The lodge’s magic apparently worked.”
“Perhaps it did and perhaps it didn’t. But I think we should try another place when next we try to conceive a child.” A huge yawn split Jane’s face and she slid down beneath the cover. “One without a lumpy mattress.”
Chuckling, Gareth leaned down and kissed her head. “Your every wish will always be my pleasure to fulfill.”
