Ki-rin wings.

Rachelle stared at it. “Kane, what is this?”

“I had it made for you,” he said. “Super-rush job, but I didn’t want to wait.”

He took the ring from her and held it gently.

“Rachelle Winters,” he said, “you are the best part of me. You fill the empty places in my heart, and I want to love and protect you for the rest of our lives.” There was a rumbling growl in his chest, and he gave a small laugh. “Wolf, too,” he said. “Will you marry us and be our mate?”

Rachelle flung herself into his arms. “Yes,” she said. “Yes yes yes.” She kissed him with all the tenderness she felt in her heart. Then she dipped her head and kissed his chest, where Wolf lived. “You too,” she said.

He wrapped his arms around her, closing his eyes and rocking her as if the emotions were too much for him. She could feel how big this was for him. Too big to even say anything.

After a few minutes he released her. Then he took her hand and slid the ring onto her finger.

“I know you and your animal don’t know each other very well,” he said. “And I know you think she’s—well—”

“A freak,” Rachelle whispered.

Kane cupped her cheek in his hand. “Truth?” he whispered.

She didn’t want the truth, really, but this was Kane. “Always,” she whispered back.

He kissed her lightly. “You cannot even comprehend how beautiful and badass you looked in that lab,” he said. “And when you’re ready, I want to get to know your Ki-rin side. And so does Wolf. He thinks you’re badass too, by the way.”

She smiled at him, leaning against him.

“And now,” he said, glancing up at the sun, “it’s time to go swimming. I want to show you something.”

He started taking off her clothes, and they undressed each other, getting in each other’s way laughing like kids. Then they splashed into the pool. “Come on,” Kane said, dragging at her hand.

They made it over to the waterfall just as the sun met the horizon. Kane went around to the side of the waterfall and ducked underneath it, still holding Rachelle’s hand and pulling her after him. The water pounded on her for a moment, and then they were behind the falling sheet of water.

The setting sun lit up the waterfall with pink and golden light, but now they were viewing it from the inside. Rachelle caught her breath at the intense beauty. Kane was watching her face, entranced.

Without warning, power rushed through her. Instinctively, she shifted into her animal form—horse body, serpent neck, dragon head. The waterfall pounded down on her, and she reared up on her hind legs, spreading her great feathered wings.

The waterfall poured down on her, cascading off her wings in a rainbow of light. Kane ducked under the shelter of her wings, looking up at her, his face completely awestruck.

And she was beautiful, in his eyes.

She folded her wings, gathering him to her, and she felt his love radiating all the way through her. With another ripple of power, she was her human self, arms wrapped around Kane’s neck.

He kissed her deeply, his tongue claiming her mouth, his hands cupping her ass and pressing her against his cock. Heat and desire welled up in her. She was so ready, so wanting, she didn’t need anything but him inside her, making her his.

He broke the kiss and moved his lips to her neck, kissing and biting all her favorite spots. “I want you,” she murmured in his ear. “Make me yours.”

In one smooth moment he was inside her, hot and hard, cradling her against him. “I love you,” he whispered. “You’re mine to protect, mine to love. Forever.”

“Forever,” she breathed, and he began to move inside her. Each thrust touched her to her core, spiraling her upwards until she felt like she was flying. It went on until she could hardly bear the intensity, and then she shattered against the stars, holding on to Kane, her anchor, her first and only love. She felt him explode inside her, calling her name, and the power of their bond sent a shock wave through the curtain of water, scattering it into a million rainbow droplets that shimmered in the sunset light.
