“In what way?” Arti smirked. “Like did she spew blood and cross her eyes?”
Dino looked agitated. “She made threats and expected us to leave because she told us to.”
“So you aren’t scared of ghosts, kid?” Bane asked him straight out.
“Not sure about scared. I just don’t believe in it.”
Matthew scoffed. “Then how do you explain––”
Dino raised his hand and stopped him. “I’m not gonna explain a damn thing.”
Frank chuckled. “You are a Jessin alright.”
Dino glared at him.
Chapter Two
“You said you were going into town?” Bane changed the obviously touchy subject.
“We were going to see if we could get a better set of blueprints of the Inn from the county,” Jillian explained.
Frank checked his watch. “The government businesses are closed now.” He looked back up at Jillian. “Anything else needed?”
“Yes, more groceries,” Jillian replied. “And we have extra to feed too.”
“Let us get it,” Frank offered. “Orrin can drive then me and the girls will shop.”
Bane raised a credit card up. “Get everything needed for eight people to last a few days.” He looked over at Jillian.
She gasped. “Wow, that’s gonna cost like––”
“He’s got loads of money.” Orrin grabbed the card.
“He does,” Frank said. “And good thing cause I’ve been shopping with these two before.” He motioned to the girls and laughed. He then gave Orrin a nod. “Ok, son. Let’s go.”
Sheba turned to Dino. “Will be back, nephew.”
Her, Orrin, Ari and Frank all went out the front door.
“So what are you going to do?” Dino asked Bane.
“Have a look around,” he replied. “There might be answers in places only a man like me is willing to go.” He paused to look at Jillian. “With your permission?”
She nodded. “I already visited the graveyard a couple times.”
“You aren’t afraid of ghosts?” Dino taunted him.
Bane smirked. “I have a legion of those following me around, son. It’s when I leave the earth that I will have to worry.” He turned and went out too.
Jillian looked over at Dino.
He shrugged. “My supposed dad. He has a real shady past.”
“Is that why you don’t like him?” she asked.
Dino looked away. “Partly. The thing is I did fine without him for all this time. Why would I need him now?”
She sighed and said, “He is trying at least.”
