Chapter One

“Well father,” Dino spoke up as he glared at Bane. “We were about to head to town.”

Jillian looked back and forth at the two men.

Bane studied him then swung his gaze up at the old Inn. “This place has an odd vibe to it, doesn’t it?”

“It does,” Matthew replied. He then reached his hand out and said, “I’m Matthew. Dino’s grandfather.”

Bane stared at his hand and then shook it.

“Oh?” someone spoke as he came up with a cane to aid him. “My name is Frank and I am also his grandfather.”

Matthew smiled at him. “We meet at last.” He again offered his hand.

Frank smiled back as he shook it. “We have a lot in common I think.” He motioned at his own cane.

“Maybe you can all come inside?” Jillian offered.

Dino shook his head.

She shrugged and saw his discomfort. But she told him, “I can see there are people in the other SUV. We can't just let them sit there.”

Frank turned to the vehicles and waved at them.

The doors opened.

Out came another man and two women.

They all walked up and stared at the group waiting for them.

“All of you come inside please?” Jillian told them.

The large group all headed up the path through the small archway and into the house.

“Wow,” one of the girls exclaimed. “Look at all the antiques!”

“Yeah, this all looks vintage,” the other one agreed. “Did you like... go antique shopping and try to make the place look old?”

Jillian laughed as she showed them into the parlor. “No, all of this is original and I had nothing to do with it.”

They all took various places to sit.

“Ok, dude,” one of the girls said after they were settled in. She turned to look at Dino. “How on earth did you end up here?”

He slowly shook his head and motioned to his grandpa. “He lived here a long time ago. He um, well...” Dino shook his head.

Matthew sat forward and explained it, “I was here in the 80’s and I fell in love then tragedy struck and I was, well removed from the Inn.”

“Damn, that sounds interesting,” the second girl said as she looked curious. “I love intrigue.”

“Let’s all get introduced first,” Frank interjected. “This is Sheba and Ari.” He motioned to the two women. “And that is Orrin, Bane’s brother.”

“All of us are Theo...” Bane paused. “Dino’s family.”

“So, can I ask why you came back here?” Orrin spoke up as he stared at Matthew. “If you were tossed out before then why would you come back like forty something years later?”

“I’m not sure why I came at this time, but I felt like I had to.” Matthew sighed. “When I left there were a lot of unanswered questions.”
