I wasn’t going to turn her down. She was right, the council would be dogging my every step otherwise, following the same leads, and things could get messy. “If you think it’ll be okay, I won’t say no.”
“Excellent. All I want you focused on is staying safe,” Wills said.
“I will, I’ve got Ronan helping me…” I shook my head. “I never knew he was so powerful.”
Wills sat back. “Yeah, I’ve seen him in action more than once. I also know the male can fight. You couldn’t be in better hands.”
“You never mentioned his powers. I had no idea.”
She sat back. “He’s a private male. It wasn’t for me to share.”
“Has he worked out he’s utterly and completely in love with you yet?” Mags asked, smirking.
My face heated. “I don’t know about that…”
“You can stop that right now,” Iris said. “We all know it, we’re just waiting for Ronan to get a handle on those new emotions of his and figure it out.”
“Do you know how Luna got her emotions back?” Wills asked.
“Because of Gunner, right? The whole mate thing?” I’d heard Willow talk about it before.
They all stared at me with stupid expressions on their faces.
I looked down at myself, then back up. “What?”
Willow gave me a shove and a look that said duh. “He’s your mate, Rose.”
Mates? “No…that can’t be…” I was in love with Ronan, but mates? I’d spent so much of my life thinking I’d never get those things, the thought had literally never occurred to me. My heart skipped around in my chest. “Are you sure?”
“Ronan was a male without emotion, and yet he came back to you, day after day. He spent it caring for you, trying to feed you. He couldn’t stay away from you. Warrick had limited emotions, remember? He didn’t feel love before we mated. You’re the reason Ronan regained his, Roe. And right now, I’d take a wild guess and say he’s struggling big time with how he’s feeling about you.”
My heart raced faster, and my insides warmed. Ronan was my mate. “Luna said something similar. That he might be volatile or unpredictable while he works through everything.”
Willow chuckled. “Girl, you’re in for one hell of a ride.”
My face flushed hotter, and they all cackled.
“That male is intense,” Mags said, smirking. “I wonder what it’ll be like to have all that focused on making his girl feel gooood.”
My face was in flames now, because I had thought the same thing myself, many times.
“I’m not sure our Rose will ever share that with us,” Wills said, then grabbed my hand and pressed a kiss to it, like she often did when I was sick. “I’m pretty freaking happy that right now he has that same intensity focused on keeping you safe.”
“Hell yes,” Iris said. “And leave Mom to us. We can run interference, and when she does find out what you’re doing, we’ll do our best to ease her fears.”
“Thanks,” I said, and my stupid eyes stung. This was all I’d wanted for so long, for my sisters to treat me as if I were like them, to not feel like they had to tiptoe around me, and I finally had it. “You guys are awesome, you know that, right?”
“That we do,” Mags said. “So, have you taken those wings out for a test fly yet?”
I’d thought about it a lot. “Honestly, they don’t feel strong enough yet. They feel heavy, and they throw me off balance when I extend them. At least they’re not popping out randomly anymore. But I still need to build muscle.”
“I’m sure Bram can help when you’re ready to give flying a try,” she said.
“I’ll be sure to ask him when I feel ready.”
There was another reason I was pleased when Wills had called to organize some sister time this morning. “Hey, so there’s something I wanted to ask you.” I instantly had their full attention. “So, while I was sick, my magic was as well. Thankfully, it’s grown in strength with me. Then last night, while Ronan and I were out, I saw something…I was looking in a mirror and…” I tried to think of the best way to describe it. “I saw something that hadn’t happened yet. A kind of vision that played out in the mirror, and only I could see it.”
“Has the vision come to be?” Iris asked, all humor gone from her face.
