“Right, we have to do this quick,” Tobias said.

Scarlet left the room and rushed back with a plate, a knife, and a mug from the dining area. T tipped the organs onto the plate, and Scarlet sliced off a piece of each, then kept on slicing until all of it was nothing but pulp. She looked up at Kyler. “This is going to be…unpleasant, Ky. I’m sorry. But this is the only way to do it.”

Kyler’s eyes were wide, and she looked pale. Scarlet had obviously filled her in while they were gone. She had to ingest demon blood and organs to awaken her own demon DNA.

“Can we mix it with something?” Rocco asked. “Wine maybe?” The bowls of food and drink in the dining room were always full of fresh food and drink, replenishing themselves as soon as they were empty.

“I don’t think so,” Scarlet said. “I think undiluted is better.”

Scarlet scraped the pulp into a mug and moved to Kyler, handing it to her. “I’m sorry, Ky,” Scarlet said and winced. “You have to do it now, while it’s fresh, and if you throw it up, we’ll have to start all over again.”

Kyler took the mug in both hands and drew in a deep breath, then another.

“You have to do it now,” Scarlet said again.

“Hang on, I need a minute.”

“You don’t have a minute,” Scarlet said, her voice more forceful.

Kyler shook her head. “I can’t do it.”

Scarlet took Ky’s upper arms and looked her in the eyes. “Yes, you can. If you don’t, Rocco will have to go back out there. I know you don’t want that.”

“No.”

“Then drink.”

Rocco stepped forward, but T planted his hand against Roc’s chest and shook his head. Kyler’s gaze darted to him, locked on, and she lifted the mug to her mouth and started gulping.

“That’s it,” Scarlet said. “Breathe through your nose.”

Kyler convulsed like she was about to throw up.

Scarlet grabbed the mug as well, so Kyler couldn’t stop. “If you stop now and Rocco goes back out there, they could hurt him, and you’ll have to do this all over again. Swallow it.”

Kyler’s eyes sharpened. She was getting pissed off, and Rocco almost smiled. His mate was tough and sarcastic, and she didn’t take shit. But the female he’d pulled out of Diemos’s room was so different—of course she was different after all she’d been through, was still going through. But fuck, it was good to see some of that fire back in her eyes.

She swallowed the last mouthful and tossed the mug aside, breathing heavily, her small frame shuddering. She gagged.

“Keep it down,” Scarlet said. “This is easy. After Diemos, this is nothing.”

Kyler gagged again, gripping the edge of the table.

“Do you want that fucker to win? You throw up, you’re letting him win,” Scarlet barked at her.

Kyler straightened. “No!” she yelled back. “I want that piece of shit to fucking die, but not until he’s suffered like he made me suffer.”

Scarlet smiled. “That’s right.”

Planting her hands on her hips, Kyler stared Scarlet down. “You’re an asshole. It’s a good thing I like you.”

Yeah, there she is. His little smart-ass.

Scarlet’s smile widened, and chuckling, she held out her fist.

Kyler bumped it, a tentative smile on her own lips.

“Well, good thing, since we’re sisters, right?”
