“You never know. Maybe they’ll break up, and Brooke will have her chance.”
“Anyway, I just thought it would be nice to come up and see you, that’s all,” Brooke insisted.
“I agree, but can we make it another weekend? Colton and I will be pretty busy, and I wouldn’t have much time to visit with you guys.”
“Pretty busy having sex,” Becca stated with a smirk.
Beth blushed, but she couldn’t hide anything from her sisters. “It’s been a long time.”
“For him too?” asked Brooke.
“I think so.”
“Just make sure you’re safe,” Becca said.
“Yes, Mom!”
Just then, Brooke’s phone rang, and when she looked down at the screen, she broke out in a big smile. “It’s Kyle.”
“Oh geez,” Becca said, shaking her head.
“I gotta go, Beth. Talk to you soon. Love you,” Brooke said hurriedly, and then she disappeared from view.
Beth heard a door close, and then Becca said, “I wish she would stop lusting after him.”
“I think she genuinely cares about him.”
“Too bad he doesn’t reciprocate.”
“Are you sure about that?”
“He has a girlfriend, Beth.”
“Yes, but according to Brooke, Haylie doesn’t appreciate him.”
Becca sighed. “You two and your fairy tales. I’m glad I don’t have any delusions about men. If they didn’t have a penis, I wouldn’t even like them.”
Beth laughed. “You’re terrible.”
“Just being honest.”
“That’s what I love about you.”
“I love you too, sis, even though you are a hopeless romantic.”
“You never know. It could happen to you too someday.”
“I doubt it. Besides, I’m not even looking.”
“I wasn’t either.”
“Yeah, well, Dadalicious is the lucky one. Just remember that.”
And then Beth’s phone rang, and just like Brooke, her face lit up when she saw the name on the display.
“I’m going, I’m going!” Becca said, sounding exasperated. “You two, I swear!” And then she disconnected without saying goodbye.
Beth picked up her phone and walked into the kitchen with it. “Hello?” she said, peering out the kitchen window, thinking he might have just gotten home. But there was no sign of him.
