A couple of the guys heard him, but a few were still pounding nails, so he repeated it louder that time.

“We just had lunch,” one of the guys said.

“You gonna complain about another break?”

The man shook his head.

“Take twenty.”

Cody got into his truck and drove up the hill to Mountain Dreams. His heart rate sped up when he saw her car in the driveway. He wasn’t sure if she’d be home or out meeting with clients, and he sighed with relief. Finally, he would get some answers.

He opened the door and saw her sitting cross-legged on the couch with her laptop open, a stack of papers and pen nearby, her glasses on. She looked surprised to see him and paused whatever she’d been doing.

“Hi.”

“Hey,” he said.

“What are you doing here?”

“I live here.”

“I meant during the middle of the day.”

He crossed the room in two strides and stood before her. “Why? Were you hoping to avoid me again?”

She furrowed her brows. “Avoid you?”

“Isn’t that what you’ve been doing?”

“No!”

“What do you call it, then?”

“Working!” Anger flashed in her eyes as she met his gaze.

Suddenly he felt like a fool, which was happening a lot lately. “I just thought—”

“You thought I was avoiding you because we kissed, but you’re wrong,” she said. She placed the laptop next to her and stood to her full height, which wasn’t saying much in her stockinged feet.

“In this case, I don’t mind being wrong,” he said, flashing his best smile. Unfortunately, she wasn’t done scolding him yet.

“This is my busy season, and a lot of my weeknights will be spent meeting with clients.”

He knew that, but he’d needed the reminder. “What about your weekends?” he asked, taking a step closer.

Her gaze went to his chest, which he was starting to believe she admired as much as he did hers.

“What do you have in mind?” she asked, moving closer.

“This.” He wrapped his arms around her waist, dipped his head, and captured her lips. This kiss was just as heady and intoxicating as the one a few nights ago, maybe even more so because it was fueled only by them. He nudged her lips apart and inserted his tongue, sighing when she eagerly sought his too.

He wasn’t sure how long they’d been kissing when his forehead bumped against her glasses and broke the spell. “Sorry.”

“These stupid things!”

She started to take off her glasses, but he gently pulled her arms down. “No, don’t. I like them on you.”

“Really?”
