Hey, Jenna. I’m back in town and wondered if you want to meet up. Looking forward to hearing from you. Beck.

“Who’s Beck?”

“Only the biggest jerk who ever lived!”

“Who’s a jerk?” Stacy said as she entered the kitchen.

“Some guy named Beck,” Kelsey replied.

“Beck? As in Beckett Montgomery?”

“The one and only,” Jenna said, rolling her eyes.

“How did he get your number?”

“I have no idea.”

“Wait a minute. Will someone please fill me in?” Kelsey said.

Jenna motioned to Stacy as if she didn’t want to speak of him anymore.

“Beckett was her high school love,” Stacy began.

“Boyfriend, not love,” Jenna corrected.

“Are you telling the story, or am I?”

“Go ahead.”

“Anyway, he took her to prom, but she caught him making out with another girl.”

“Kat was her name,” Jenna snarled. “That bitch.”

So, this was the guy who broke her heart, Kelsey thought. Then Stacy confirmed it.

“He broke her heart,” Stacy said.

“She’s exaggerating,” Jenna huffed.

“Well, it must have been traumatic if you’re still this angry,” Kelsey said unthinkingly.

Jenna gaped at her. “It wasn’t traumatic. It was infuriating, insensitive, and inexcusable!”

“Sorry.” Kelsey held up her hands in surrender.

“She called our parents to come and pick her up from the prom, and she never spoke to him again,” Stacy said.

“The arrogant bastard,” Jenna heaved.

“Who’s an arrogant bastard?” Nick said as he walked into the kitchen. He sidled up next to Stacy and slipped his arm around her waist.

She leaned into him and gave him a sappy smile.

“Oh, for God’s sake. I’m outta here,” Jenna huffed. She took her beer and brushed past them on the way out.

“What’d I say?” Nick said, looking confused.

“It wasn’t you. Jenna’s high school love resurfaced and wants to meet up with her,” Stacy explained.
