“C’mon, pretty lady. Let’s get out of here.”

“Sounds like another pick-up line.”

“You biting?”

“Oh yeah. Let’s go.”

They left the restaurant hand in hand, no longer concerned about being seen together. All that mattered was they’d been given this opportunity, and neither wanted to waste it.

Chapter 27

Morgan could hardly believe their luck. To be alone with Gabe twice in one day was like having a dream come true! She felt giddy as he hurriedly drove them to his house.

“Do you think Maria suspected anything?”

“Are you kidding? She was too busy making goo-goo eyes at Matt—”

“To see you making goo-goo eyes at me?”

He chuckled. “Hey. Who started touching whom first?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about!”

“Your innocent act might work on other people, but not with me. I know you now.”

“And you didn’t before?”

“Not intimately.”

Soon they were pulling into his garage, and they wasted no time going into the house. The second they were inside, he scooped her up and carried her down the hall.

“How much time do you think we have?” she asked as he gently laid her in the middle of his bed.

“Not enough.” He yanked his blue shirt over his head without unbuttoning it, and one of the buttons flung off and rolled onto the floor.

She laughed at his haste, but then he removed his pants, and her laughter faded away. It was dark in the room except for thin strips of light that filtered in through the blinds, but it was enough to see the outline of his beautiful body. She’d seen him naked several times now, but it still gave her a thrill. If she was in the desert, then this had to be a mirage—one that was now climbing onto the bed.

“You’re still dressed,” he said with a gruff voice.

“I was busy watching you get undressed.”

He went up on his knees and unzipped her skirt. She shimmied out of it, and then his hands went to the snaps of her bodysuit. After he’d removed all her clothes, he stopped and gazed at her like he was seeing her for the first time.

“Strange, isn’t it?” she said.

“What is?”

“Us being here like this. Did you ever imagine?”

He licked his lips and studied her until she squirmed beneath his stare. “Actually, yes, I did.”

Her head felt fuzzy, and she wondered if she’d heard him right, but then he confirmed it.

“When we were younger, I used to…”

“Used to what?” She’d come up on her elbows to better see his face.

“To fantasize about you. About us.”
