He sounded suspicious, and Morgan didn’t want to give him any more ammunition to use against Bryan or her.

“He just came over to check on us, but then someone called him away.”

“Hmm.”

“We’re gonna slow it down now, but don’t be shy. Grab someone you know or even a stranger and come out to the dance floor,” coaxed the lead singer.

There were some laughter and the murmur of voices, and a few more couples came forward.

“Maybe we should leave now,” she suggested.

“Why?”

“There’s nothing left to do. We ate, drank, and looked around. I have a good feel for the place, don’t you?”

The beginning notes of a slow song by Jason Aldean started playing in the background, and Gabe stood up.

Oh no.

He held out his hand and gave her that smile again, the one she’d adored as a teenager and still did.

She shook her head and remained seated.

“Morgan.”

“Gabe.”

“Please.”

She locked eyes with him, and what she saw there made her heart flutter. This is a rotten idea. We really shouldn’t. Stop looking at me like that. “Okay, but only one dance.”

She stood up, placed her hand in his, and let him lead her onto the dance floor. They stayed near the edge since it had suddenly become crowded. They were surrounded by couples as their bodies pressed together and swayed to the music.

Her body knew exactly what to do even though her brain was shouting, No! Don’t!

She stepped into his embrace, her breasts brushing his chest and their hips and thighs lightly touching. She slid her arms around his neck and tightly clasped her hands as if she could hold him there forever.

He slipped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer as if he were afraid she’d squirm away and leave him stranded on the dance floor. Now that she was in his arms, he had nothing to worry about. She wasn’t going anywhere.

The song lyrics were slow and sensual, and while the singer crooned about how easy it was to love someone, she tried to concentrate on the words instead of the feel of Gabe’s long, hard body plastered against hers. The temperature in the place had risen significantly, although that could have been from the heat they were generating in addition to the other couples on the dance floor.

At first, she looked everywhere but at him, and then she made the mistake of glancing up. He was gazing down at her with a soft smile on his handsome face. This smile wasn’t polite or flirtatious, and she wished she knew what it meant or what he was thinking.

“This isn’t so bad, is it?” he asked.

Afraid she might not be able to get out her words, she shook her head.

“Are you enjoying it?”

More than I should be. She nodded.

“Have you lost the ability to speak?”

“No,” she croaked.

His smile widened, but it didn’t quite meet his eyes. “Don’t look, but Bryan is watching us.”

So that was why he was doing this. Were the two men having a pissing contest over her?
