“What brand of jeans was he wearing?”

She sighed.

“Don’t pretend you don’t know. I saw you staring at his butt.”

She shook her head but didn’t deny it.

“What brand, Morgan?”

“Wranglers, okay! He’s wearing Wranglers!”

“Ah-ha!”

“Ohmigod. What is with you?”

“I don’t want your infatuation to compromise our working with him, that’s all.” He picked up his beer and took a long swallow. When he set it back down, she was still glaring at him.

“Smiling at our client is not going to compromise my working with him.”

“But staring at his butt might.”

“I’m done talking about this.” She picked up her fork and knife and began cutting into the ribs while he looked on.

“He was staring at you too, you know.”

She’d just taken a bite, and she chewed slowly and thoughtfully, just like she had the other night at his house. Then she washed it down with a drink of beer. “Mmm. Delicious. You should try it.”

“If you don’t think you’ll be able to work with him and remain professional, tell me now.”

She brought another forkful of meat to her mouth and opened wide before sucking it off the fork. She made quite a show of expressing her pleasure and even licked her lips afterward. How was it possible to be irritated and turned on at the same time?

“I won’t have any problem working with Bryan,” she stated.

“How can you be so sure?”

“Because. I work with you, don’t I?”

Chapter 11

Morgan could have kissed the waitress for showing up when she did.

“How is everything?” she asked.

“Great,” Morgan replied, purposely giving her a big smile like she’d supposedly given Bryan earlier.

“Can I get you anything else?”

“Another beer, please,” Gabe said.

“I’ll take one too,” Morgan added. Tonight she was going to need it.

Then a band member who had been setting up equipment on a small stage picked up the microphone, and a hush fell over the room.

“How y’all doin’ tonight?” he said with a Southern drawl.

Morgan couldn’t be sure if his accent was real or not, but it had the desired effect. Either that or everyone was too drunk to care. The audience broke into loud applause.

While they’d been eating, the lights had been dimmed, and an area had been cleared for dancing. There was one silver lining about Gabe being annoyed with her—he probably wouldn’t ask her to dance.
