I sigh and tell Micky everything, too. There’s no point in keeping him in the dark anymore. Lainy is crying, and Indy and Kia have the same distant look on their faces. Though Kia looks disgusted, while Indy is just tired.
Asher shifts and clears his throat. “She’s right.”
My eyebrows shoot to the top of my head. “About?”
“This needs to end, now. We don’t have the time to do this through the courts. He will do something before it goes to trial.”
Indy nods. “My thoughts exactly.”
Asher walks up the stairs to greet her, sticking his hand out. “Asher.”
“Indy, but I guess you already knew that.” Her brows furrow looking at Lain. “How are you here? You’re supposed to be at the bar.”
“Bik’s there. Mik called him after your father left. It was dead anyway.”
“He closed down,” Mik adds, walking over to Indy and sitting his big ass on the same step as the two of them. Both girls chuckle, and Indy drops her head on his shoulder.
The doorbell rings. I look through the peephole. “Bik and Ray.” I open the door, and they stroll in.
“It’s too dangerous for you all to be here,” Indy whispers.
Asher nods. “She’s right, if he…”
“Ash,” Ken warns. “It’s not going to get to that point.” Asher runs his tongue over his teeth but offers a single tight nod.
“You all need to leave,” she says in a stern voice that has Kia bursting out in laughter.
“We aren’t going anywhere.”
“Why won’t you listen to me?” she belts. “I’ve lived this my entire life. I know what he is capable of. I’ve seen it with my own fucking eyes.” Her tears overflow, and her eyes go distant. The doorbell rings again, bringing her back here. “Jesus fucking Christ. Do we know anyone else?” After looking through the peephole, I look back at her, and she can see it in my eyes—he’s here.
She lurches off the stairs toward the door. Mik tries to catch her but misses. I grab her before she reaches it. “Don’t,” I snap.
“Fuck off, Cam,” she spits, trying to wiggle free.
“Not happening, baby girl.” I have her under my arm, holding her like a sack of potatoes. Bik looks at the two of us like we’re crazy and turns to Jay.
“They always like this?”
“Every. Fucking. Day.”
Indy stops struggling enough to join me in glaring at Jared, making Bik and Ray laugh. The doorbell hasn’t stopped ringing.
I drop her to her feet beside Bik. “Hold her.” He nods, grabbing her wrist, naturally putting her behind his back.
“Stop hitting the fucking bell,” she screams at the door right before I open it and block his view in.
“Back to arrest me again?” I sneer.
“I am here to talk to Indy.”
“No.”
“You can’t keep me from her.”
“Watch me.”
He laughs. At first, it’s a bewildered laugh that morphs into a sinister snarl. “Mr. Beck, you will not keep me from her. It will be easier on you both if you let her come out here and talk.”
