I opened the box.

And damn near dropped it.

“Goddamn.”

The diamond was huge.

Not cute huge.

Not *oh, that’s nice* huge.

It was **what-the-fuck-do-you-do-for-a-living** huge.

I held the box farther away from my face like maybe distance would make the diamond look smaller.

It didn’t.

“Kai!”

He glanced at me through the rearview mirror, grinning. “What?”

“Where the hell did this come from?”

“Rome called me this morning and told me to go see our jeweler,” Kai explained. “Told him what he wanted, jeweler handled the rest. I had to pick it up before we came to get you.”

I looked back down at the ring.

Of course.

Only Roman Devereaux could decide to get married out of nowhere and somehow have a damn boulder waiting before lunchtime.

Kai looked at me through the mirror again.

“You think Sol gonna like it?”

I stared at him. “Hell yeah. If she don’t like it, I’ll take it.”

Sugga snatched her head around.

“Put my daughter-in-law’s ring down,” she ordered.

I burst out laughing. “She ain't even your daughter-in-law yet!”

“She will be by the time we get there, apparently,” Sugga shot back, “because these people moving so damn fast I can't keep up!”

Kai shook his head. “Ma, that's why we're going to the wedding.”

Sugga turned toward him. “I know why we going, Khalil. What I don't know is how I went to sleep last night with two single sons and woke up with one of them halfway to somebody's altar.”

I covered my mouth to keep from laughing harder.

Kai reached one hand toward the back. “Give me the ring before y'all lose it.”

I pulled the box against my chest.

“Hold on. I’m still looking.”

“A’Zaria,” Kai warned.
