I started pacing.

Nothing with Roman Devereaux ever just happened.

“Where are you?” I asked.

“Dahlonega.”

“Where the hell is Dahlonega?”

“Georgia, Zari.”

“I know it’s in Georgia! I mean why the hell are y’all in Dahlonega?”

Another pause came from her end.

I stopped pacing.

“Oh my God. Y’all went on that little romantic weekend and lost y’all damn minds.”

“We did not lose our minds,” Sol argued.

“You’re getting married with no warning.”

“I know.”

“Today.”

“I know.”

“To Roman.”

“Yes, Zari!”

That nervous laugh came through the phone again, and mine disappeared.

Because I knew Sol.

And underneath that laugh, she was scared as hell.

I lowered my voice. “You okay?”

The line got quiet.

“Yeah,” Sol finally said. “I am. I’m just… nervous.”

There she was.

I sat back down. “You want to marry him?”

“Yes,” she answered immediately.

No hesitation.

That settled something in me.

“Then be nervous,” I told her. “Shit, I’d be nervous too. You’re about to marry somebody. But if you’re asking me if I think that man loves you? Sol, that man has been gone over you.”

She laughed softly. “I need you here.”
