I was worried May wouldn’t be interested in the game I love. The career I’ve built. The years I’ve sacrificed to get where I am today.

I should have known better. May is extraordinary. And she’s mine.

Chapter 30

Closeout – Sometimes the wave looks perfect... until it shuts down before you can ride it.

May

I open my door and beam up at Brock. He’s looking awful sexy in a pair of dress pants and button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows.

“Wow. I didn’t realize they made shirts big enough for your massive shoulders.”

“You love my massive shoulders, pint-sized,” he mutters before bending over and pressing his mouth to mine. I sigh at the feel of his lips on mine. You’d expect a grump who scowls more than he smiles to have hard lips. He doesn’t. They’re soft. And they’re all mine.

“Where are we going?” I ask when he ends the kiss.

“I thought Hideaway Haven Resort for dinner.”

He rakes his gaze over me. I’m wearing a pair of shorts and a blouse. A nice blouse, but nonetheless, I’m not dressed for the resort. Because we’re not going to the resort.

“Boo. Boring. I’m at the resort all the time for work.”

“Where do you want to go?”

I tap my chin and pretend to consider his question. “How about we go get matching tattoos?”

“No.” He grunts. “My skin is not a canvas.”

“Fine,” I pout. “I thought matching tattoos would be romantic, but whatever.”

He studies me. “I can’t tell if you’re being serious.”

I was joking, but he’s not. Would he get matching tattoos with me? He wants to explore the chemistry between us but is it more for him? I hope to hell it is since I love the big lug.

“Why don’t we go to the boardwalk and play some games? We can eat at the Salty Siren afterwards. They have the best, greasy burgers in town.”

He cocks a brow. “The best greasy burgers?”

“Yep. Five Fathoms Brewing has the best overall burgers.” His stomach rumbles. “Oh boy, the alien is awake. The plan is hereby officially amended. We’ll hit up the Salty Siren first. Unless you want fried food as an appetizer.”

“I enjoy all food.”

I pat his stomach. “Of course, you do. But do you have a weigh-in soon?”

“Damn near every day of training camp.”

I frown. “I guess we can eat salads.”

He scowls. “I’m not eating a salad.”

“Hey! Vegetables are good for you.”

“Next to a good burger.”

I pump my fist. “Burgers it is! Yes! I’m hungry for some smuggler fries.”

“Dare I ask what smuggler fries are?”
