“I’m fine. Are you okay? You took the brunt of the fall, and then I landed on top of you.”

“This was nothing. Try having a linebacker crash into you.”

I shiver. “No thanks.”

He palms my cheek. “You didn’t get hurt?”

“I’m fine.” I squirm to get up but pause when I realize there’s a large – extremely large – object pushing against me.

Smoking smugglers surfing in a storm! Brock Porter is getting hard. For me.

There’s no way I’m extinguishing that flame of hope now.

Chapter 23

Rule #10: Never mistake desire for something more.

Brock

May’s eyes flare, and she licks her lips. My cock – already hard and aching – hardens further.

I dig my fingers into her hips. “Stop wiggling.”

“Do I have to?”

She’s going to be the death of me. “We’re trying to get away from the scene of a crime. Now isn’t the time.”

She scowls. “I hate to admit it, but you are correct.”

I jackknife up while lifting her up. I place her on her feet and she stares at me with her mouth hanging open.

“What?” I bark out.

“You…” She clears her throat. “That was an impressive move.”

I want to tell her I have more impressive moves, but I manage to bite my tongue. I don’t do relationships. I do one-night stands with faceless women I don’t know. May, with her bright smile, could never be a faceless woman. She deserves more.

“Let’s get out of here,” I grumble as I pick up the parrot’s cage and motion for her to get going.

“Stop! Police!” Plank squawks.

May wags her finger at him. “Too late.”

“Don’t hurt me.”

She giggles. “This parrot is hilarious. I may have to keep him longer than for the night.”

I grunt since one night is all she’s getting.

“I’m surprised no one’s following us.”

I shrug since I’m not telling her the truth. The house owner – Gary was his name – agreed I could steal Plank for a day if I gave him an autograph. But May is having too much fun basking in her glory. I’m not ruining her fun.

She sticks out her foot. “See? The flip-flops didn’t slow me down one bit.”

I frown. Except she tripped and nearly landed head-first on the path. It’s a good thing I was there. How my little pint-sized surfer has survived this long in her life without injury is beyond me.

We reach my SUV. While I place the parrot on the floor behind the front seat, May jumps into the passenger seat.
