"Yeah. I forgot."
"I don't know how you could've forgotten. You guys thought this through so thoroughly," Mal teased.
I laughed, grabbing a pillow and smacking her with it lightly. "Yeah. So much thinking. Considering our whole thing has always been about sex, I guess I can't complain about the anatomical shit."
"Nope." Mal popped her lips on the p.
Not sure I was ready to discuss anything else related to my mate bond, I changed the subject, looking at Paige. "Did you get the lead role in that new ballet?"
Her lips curved. "I did."
I hugged her fiercely, with my good arm. My other shoulder remained firmly where it was. "Good. You deserve it—you worked your ass off."
"Everyone else did too," Paige said quickly.
"Well, someone has to win. Might as well be you," Mallory tossed back.
Paige rolled her eyes, but we could tell she was happy.
We talked about her role, and about the next set Mallory was about to start designing, before we eventually called it a night and went to bed.
When I plopped down on my mattress and inhaled a big whiff of King's scent, some deep, indescribable part of me ached.
I assumed it was the bond.
My bed felt empty, and cold.
I tossed and turned for an hour or so before I finally gave up. Grabbing my phone off the nightstand, I sent King a text.
Me
You awake?
King
I am now
Me
Sorry
Go back to sleep
King
No
Do you feel pressure in your chest? From being apart?
Me
It feels like pressure on the pack link, to me
But yeah
It's not horrible, but it's not great
King
