Their Final Score: Untouched, Vol 6 of 6

A shudder goes through me.
“What do we do now?” Jack asks. He’s in one of the chairs. Bruises are becoming more obvious on his jaw, and he looks wiped out. “Besides the obvious, wait for Harper to wake up.”
“Zach and his people will go down for the stunts they pulled.” Eli runs a hand through his already disheveled hair. “There’s no way they get away with any of this.”
“That house was filled with old evidence that will take the FBI and DEA time to sort through.” Caden hasn’t left his spot beside Harper’s hip. “I’m not even sure they’ll be able to have school on Monday. The school counselor is going to have to work overtime after the dance.”
We all nod. We don’t have a count on how many people were injured because of their stunt. The damage to the gym will need to be repaired before it’s usable. But the real damage is psychological. For all any of us knew, they were shooting guns at us. That isn’t something anyone can laugh off as a prank.
“I’m sure the DEA will do a widespread drug test without Coach Turner pushing for it.” Nico shifts in the wheelchair. He texted his mom once he was in the room. His mother called a while ago to check on him. Word must be spreading about what happened at Homecoming.
“Emma texted to say that the DEA showed up at Sidney Brown’s house.” Jack smirks. “Apparently, with her association with Zach Gray and the erratic behavior she’s displayed, they questioned her and had her take a drug test.”
Sidney is a fucking thorn in my side, but her family is powerful.
“She won’t be implicated in tonight’s fuckery,” I say.
Eli shoves forward from the wall and takes the spot I vacated on the bed. “No, but if she has the same cocktail in her blood as Harper did, Zach could get more time. It would show a pattern of abuse. Her mother will make sure Sidney doesn’t do any time. Maybe get her sent to a rehab spa for a month.”
“Good.” Caden’s tone is gruff. “With Zach off the board, we should be able to clean up the rest of his followers who hid behind him. Harper will be safe, with the exception of our fathers.”
“Sounds like my dad and Robert aren’t siding with William this time.” Eli brushes back the hair that fell into Harper’s face. “And Caden’s mom doesn’t want Bruce involved.”
“We don’t know how involved my dad is.” Nico shrugs. “He hasn’t asked me for anything from Harper except to bring her by. Though he did mention an internship.”
I don’t know if Mark Lee’s idea of an internship is similar to my dad’s, or honestly, just a way of getting Nico some real-world experience. We don’t know if Mark still has connections to my father outside of whatever happened in the quarry that night. I run my hand through my hair.
The door gently opens, and we turn to watch Jennifer come into the room. Her brow furrows as she looks at Harper. Harper hasn’t moved, but her breathing and heartbeat are steady.
“The doctor is going to come in and check her over.” Jennifer crosses the room and checks the bags attached to the IV pole. “I’m ready to take her home. There’s not much they can do for her at this point. She’s been given fluids and just needs to sleep it off.”
Jennifer looks around at all of us. Her frown softens. “You all need some sleep.”
I straighten. “I need to go check on Penny if we’re going to leave soon.”
“Here, give her this.” Eli pulls a phone out of his pocket. “It’s one of the burners, but it has our numbers in it.”
“Thanks.” I pocket it and stop beside Jennifer. “I’ll be back.”
She smiles. “I wouldn’t leave without you.”
I nod and head out the door. My mind keeps rewinding the night, trying to figure out where Zach outsmarted us. We knew he had a plan. The fact that he got Kenz, Brandon, Will, and Penny out without us realizing it makes me wish there was footage I could review, like for our games.
See where we went wrong and fix it for next time.
My gut twists. There better not be a next time.
The hospital is bright and white as I cross the main area to Will’s room. The ER is practically deserted. It’s an odd hour, too late to be the middle of the night, but not early enough to be dawn. Most people are likely in their beds.
I knock softly on the door. When there isn’t an answer, I open it and look in. Penny and Will are asleep wrapped in each other’s arms. If you’d asked me at the beginning of the night, I would have never guessed these two would end up together.
But if you’d told me at the beginning of the year that I’d have a girlfriend, I would have laughed in your face. The idea of loving someone was so foreign to me it was unimaginable. Now, I’m just glad Penny has someone to rely on.
I walk over and set the phone on the table next to the bed.
“Hey.” Will’s voice is groggy. His eyes are sleepy as they meet mine.
“We’re probably going to take off soon.” I touch the phone. “When you guys need a ride, call. We’ll come get you.”
