I whistle a slightly different bird call. Something large moves through the bushes toward us. I turn so my body shields Harper from any attack.
“Fuck!” a modulated voice says.
I turn and see Caden on top of a pretty large guy.
“Stay down,” Caden growls and grabs the guy’s wrists behind him. He slips a zip tie around them and tightens it. With a grin, he looks up at me. “That’s three.”
Harper peeks out from in front of me and grins. “Caden!”
She’s acting like she’s drunk. She slips from behind me and throws herself at him. He catches her and stands with her, leaving the guy on the ground. She wraps herself around Caden and plants kisses along his jaw.
“I knew you’d come.” Her voice sounds light.
“Of course, I came.” He glances over at me with a worried look. Yeah, she’s high as a fucking kite.
“Zach gave her drugs.” I lean down and turn the big guy onto his back.
He groans with discomfort at his hands being beneath him.
“How many were with you?” I ask, taking out my knife and revealing the blade.
The guy’s eyes widen with fear and he releases a breath. “Three out here. Three in the house.”
Good, that means we have all the guys outside. Three of them in the house and three of us to take them down, but they have Penny and Jack to use as hostages. From what Kenz said, they thought they killed Will. That’s fucked up.
If they have two, they might be willing to kill one or hurt one as a demonstration. I’m not willing to sacrifice Penny or Jack.
“I missed you,” Harper says to Caden.
“I can tell.” Caden spanks her ass once. “Now be quiet. We’re busy.”
She whispers loudly, “I feel warm and soft inside.”
I growl. What the fuck did he give her? I know why he gave her drugs. He wanted my girl pliable. That fucker is going to die. Zach Gray is done for.
I help the masked guy to his feet and take off his mask. He looks familiar, but not someone I know.
“Who the fuck are you?”
The guy shakes his head.
“You can tell me or the cops when they get here.” I shrug like it doesn’t matter. “But you look familiar.”
“Play football for the Tigers. I’m the asshole that kept taking you down.” He gives me a cocky grin.
Our first game of the year. My shoulder aches just thinking about it. That was when all this bullshit started, including the knocking on Harper’s doors.
I smile. “Yeah? I hope you appreciate prison. You know kidnapping is a felony charge and kidnapping a minor—”
“They’re adults,” he protests as I walk him over to the others on the ground.
“Not Penny. My sister.” I narrow my eyes on him.
He swallows hard. Probably hoping for the local cops who might brush this under the rug. He doesn’t know that we have someone from the DEA on our side. It’s exactly what we need to make sure they can’t make this go away easily.
“I don’t feel good,” Harper says.
Caden lowers her to her feet, and she throws up in the bushes. His worried gaze lifts to mine as he holds her waist. She shakes like a leaf. Her skin is flushed and sweaty.
