I drop my head, overwhelmed with emotion.
“Okay.” I suck in air. “Focus.”
My phone beeps a text.
Giuliano.
Good news.
We’ve hacked the security system.
She wasn’t taken, she left of her own free will.
She got on a bus out the front of the airport.
“Thank fuck.” Relief washes over me.
My elbows rest on my knees and I drop my head, my heart beats hard against my chest. I’m panting and wet with perspiration.
She’s just angry.
I tip my head back to the sky. “Thank you. She’s just angry.”
Wait….
She’s angry.
This doesn’t help my situation of keeping her safe, I need to get her and bring her home.
Right now.
I run to the elevator, ride it to the ground and get back into my Ferrari.
Studying the AirTag map, I zoom in…okay, I need to get on the A1 highway.
I watch the dot for a moment, it’s moving way too fast for her to be on a bus.
She’s in an Uber or a cab.
I frown.
“Where is she going?”
I pull out into the traffic. “I’m coming, babe. Hold on, I’m coming.”
Forty-five minutes later….
I pull the car over on the side of the highway so that I can study the map, I zoom in again.
Where the fuck is she going?
I enlarge the map to see what’s up ahead.
Piacenza
“What the hell is going to that town for?” I frown. “Doesn’t make any sense.”
I pull back out onto the road. “I guess it’s as good a place as any to hide from me.” I imagine her face when she realizes I had a tracker on her and I bite my lip to stifle my smile. She’s going to lose her fucking shit.
