“What are you doing?” I ask.
“Taking a break.”
“You didn’t do any work yet.”
“I sold an armoire.” He dusts his suit jacket off. “What exactly did you do?”
“I’ve been very busy in my office.”
“Doing what?”
Having a panic attack.
“Paperwork,” I lie.
He nods and casually sips his coffee. “How’d that go?”
“What are you doing, Edward?” I sigh. “We both know you don’t want to be my intern.”
Amusement flashes across his face as he blows on his coffee. “What gave it away?”
“Why did you bid at the auction?”
“To support you.”
My eyes hold his.
“And I was going to donate the internship until your pissy little boyfriend carried on.” He frowns. “I still can’t believe you’re with him.”
“And you’re dating a princess?”
“I am.”
We stare at each other as a million unanswered questions swim between us.
“Are you and she serious?” I ask.
“We are.”
My heart sinks.
“I….” He cuts himself off.
“What?”
“I know you’re not ending up with Pascal, so I’m not even going to bother asking you the same question.”
“How do you know that?”
“He’s not the man for you, Alora.”
“You know nothing about me, now I’m going to ask you again, Edward. What are you doing here?” I repeat.
“I came to say goodbye.”
My eyes hold his.
“I’m going to donate the internship to someone who actually wants it.”
