It was true, though. While I was the richest of my siblings, they weren’t too far behind me. From the moment we all got our trust fund, we started investing. I was a daredevil and started off investing big for an even bigger payout. While my siblings started off placing up to a hundred grand here and there, I was putting up five hundred grand to a million. I’d only lost a few times. As good as we were with numbers, stocks could be a little tricky. One wrong move within the stock could cause it to decline, and you would lose all your money. It was a gamble.
Not to mention all the bonds, vacation rentals, and businesses. Sinful Dreams and Club Platinum were solely mine and Blade’s. We didn’t have to split shares with anyone but ourselves, unlike the club businesses.
Cara reached out, patting Brit on the leg. “I know this is a lot to process, so how about we change the subject to your father?” Cara rolled her lips together, trying not to laugh.
Brit sat there like a deer caught in headlights, but managed to nod. Cara picked a file up off the coffee table and handed it to her. Brittney’s hand lightly shook as she opened the file. On the first page was a picture of a man. He had an uncanny resemblance to Brittney. She placed her hand over her mouth, staring at the photo in shock.
“Your father’s name is Bryce Miller. He’s forty-four years old, and he owns a barbershop. He lives in Davenport and…” Cara paused, like she was uncertain if she should continue.
“And what?” Brittney whispered worriedly.
“You have a brother.”
“Are you serious?” Brittney wiped her face when a tear fell. I pulled her closer to me, holding her tight.
“Yeah. He’s actually a year older than you. By the time frame of your parents’ marriage, he was conceived while they were together. His name is Bentley.”
Brittney turned to me. “Do you think my mom knew about him? She told me he cheated, so maybe she was aware I had a brother as well.”
I shrugged, shaking my head. “I don’t know, Brit. If you want answers, you might have to get them from your father. Your mom isn’t going to tell you a thing.”
“You’re right. I just need a few days before I go see him. This is a lot to process.”
I grabbed her hand and squeezed it. “I don’t want you going alone. I want to be there with you.”
She bit her lip before smiling. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Tonight the club was finally making a move against Smoove. We had learned his routine, and now we were about to bug the laundromat and his condo. Axel, Blade, and I were set to go to the condo while Viper, Bear, and Capone were going to the laundromat. The rest of the brothers split up to watch each location in case we ran into any kind of trouble.
Not that I believed we would. The girls and Tech had hacked into the surrounding camera systems for both locations, putting them on a loop. We even had the codes for the doors to get inside. All we had to do was get in and get out.
When we arrived at Smoove’s condo, I pulled the keycard to the elevators. It was a counterfeit the girls made to match the ones the building gave to tenants. I swiped it against the scanner, and the elevator doors opened. Right before they closed, an elderly woman stepped inside with a Yorkie. She pressed the button for her floor and scooped up her dog. Once she glanced up and saw us leaning against the back wall, her face paled. Quickly, she turned around.
We were accustomed to these kinds of reactions. We were all well over six feet tall, muscular, and tatted from head to toe. For some people, that reeked of troublemakers.
“Cute dog,” Axel foolishly said.
“T-t-th-thank y-you,” she stuttered like she was on the verge of a heart attack. She kept her eyes trained on the door, never looking back at us.
Blade shook his head and gave Axel a look to cut it out. He smiled, winking at us. I knew right then he was about to keep fucking with this lady.
“What’s its name?”
She squeaked and Axel smile widened. “P-Polo.”
“That’s a nice—” He didn’t get to finish that statement because the doors opened for her floor. She took off like a bat out of hell. Axel turned to Blade and me. “Was it something I said?”
Blade and I chuckled right as Cara’s voice came through the earpiece we had in. “Axel, you need to grow up. You love fuckin’ with people.” She chortled.
“Hey, what’s a mission without a little fun?”
“There will be no fun at all. I have a fifteen-minute window for you to get this done. The condo has higher security, so it won’t be long before they figure out someone’s in the system.”
I frowned because her ass told us everything but that. “Why is this the first time we’re hearing this?” I asked as the doors opened to Smoove’s floor. We stepped out and headed to his condo.
“I didn’t tell you that?” Cara faked confusion. “My bad, but anywho, you have twelve minutes left. Get a move on,” she said and cut the connection.
“I swear I’m about to enroll in martial arts so I can learn how to kick her ass,” Blade mumbled under his breath.
