“She is, but she’s also a nurse,” Trick answers before a cold compress is placed against my brow, and I groan, “I think I'm going to be sick again.”

“Ew, Blaze baby, step back,” his girlfriend snaps just as I gag and wretch, then heave up more bile, making me cough as my stomach tightens and my head pounds.

I feel the compress move to the back of my neck as Blaze asks, “What happened anyhow? When El and I walked out, you were both near the nurses' desk?”

“Belle loosened a patient's handcuffs,” Trick grits, “Cans’ handcuffs.”

“What the fuck? Why isn’t he in prison?” Blaze snaps, and I answer, “Self-inflicted stab wound, holy crap my head is spinning…”

“Blaze?!” El, as he calls her, snaps as I feel the compress be moved and another placed on the back of my neck, and Blaze growls, “You are in the truck, head home, and I’ll call you later!”

I hear her growl deeply, but whatever look Blaze gives her, it stops instantly, and the curtain closes just as Trick gently moves me back, and I flinch before he turns my head his way, and he sighs, “Well, you don’t need stitches,” as he gently dabs my brow, “but you will have a shiner matching your fat lip.”

I narrow my eyes at him and mutter, “Now I remember why I chose homeschooling, people are mean.”

Trick smirks just as Clark's voice echoes, “Admit it, you missed us,” and I retort, “Not Alexiana’s terrible math, I didn’t.”

Blaze chuckles as Clark says, “You have me there, and the fact she was going to go into accounting instead of skating amazes me,” and I look her way in shock and gasp, “She what?” before I groan and hold my head as nausea hits me again.

Okay, wrong move…

“That woman needs to stay clear of anything math-related,” I groan, and Clark chuckles while Blaze puts the cool compress on my forehead just as I hear, “Blair? Where’s my daughter, Blair?” just as the curtain opens and she lets out a sob that worries me.

“Blaze!” I say out of instinct, and he moves quickly and takes my mama into his arms and whispers in her ear, and I completely freeze up while Clark grins wide, full of mischief.

Oh crap, this cannot be good…

“Are you comfortable?” Mama asks three hours later, and I hum as I lay my head on the pillow as she reclines the chair.

After I had a mini panic attack that only Clark noticed, Trick said I could leave as long as mama wakes me every hour. I have two weeks off work, and instead of leaving after Mama got there, Blaze stayed the whole freaking time. Which did not help my panic attack before he followed us back to Mama’s and helped her get me inside and sat on the chair then left after his phone rang.

I only met him today, yet Mama burst into tears seeing the state I was in, and he was my first instinct.

I’m screwed, it’s official, I am totally screwed because not only does he have a girlfriend, but I don’t want to feel like this. I don’t want the hurt or the pain or even the disappointment, I’ve had enough of it in my life.

Snow puts her head on my feet and whines, and I whisper, “I’m okay, girl…” but her ears lower a little more, making me sigh.

“She can sense you’re hurt,” Mama murmurs, and I hum before she sighs, “I’m glad they managed to handcuff that man back up.”

“I’m just sorry I missed them tasering his ass,” I mutter, and Mama chuckles.

“You like Blaze, don’t you?” she asks after a few seconds of silence, and I reply, “I don’t know him,” which is the truth because I don’t, and honestly, I didn’t think I would see him again.

“That isn’t what I asked, sweetie,” Mama says, and I swallow hard.

“He has a girlfriend,” I try differently, and she hums, “Still not what I asked,” and I huff.

“Everyone leaves me, everyone hurts me, I don’t want to want him, and after today I won’t see him again,” I whisper, and Mama chokes, “Oh, sweetie…” But I just shake my head, then wince at the throbbing.

“I don’t want to find someone, I like being alone because it’s safer,” I admit quietly before I whisper, “Momma, my head hurts,” and she walks over to me and presses a compress on my forehead, making me wince as I close my eyes.

I won’t see him again, or that is what I’m going to keep telling myself because not only is the man taken but he has heartbreaker written all over him.
