"What?"

He looked down at his coffee.

"Maggie's gone."

My smile disappeared.

"Gone where?"

"Back to her husband."

"Oh, okay?"

"She didn't take Gabby. She left her with Grizz."

For the first time that morning, I smiled for real.

"He got his baby back."

"Yeah."

But Tiny wasn't smiling.

"What?"

He rubbed a hand through his beard.

"Grizz is scared. She didn't sign shit, Sunshine."

Ronny turned from the stove.

"What do you mean?"

"She left Gabby with Grizz and left. Far as I know, legally nothing changed."

"How long ago?"

"Almost two months."

Ronny turned the burner off. Lawyer Ronny had officially entered the room.

"And Gabby's been living with Knox this entire time?"

"Yeah."

"School?"

"He handles it."

"Medical care?"

"Everything."

"Financial support from Maggie?"

"Not that I know of."
