"What he cook?"

"I don't know."

She peeled the foil back.

We both stared.

"Is this fried Spam?"

I leaned closer.

It was fried Spam and eggs that were gray.

Ronny covered it back up.

"Nah."

She picked up the whole plate.

She dropped it in the trash.

Chapter 14

Grizz

I was loading up my bike when I heard it.

The rumble of an engine. But not a Harley.

I looked up.

An RV was pulling into the parking lot. Not a small one either. A full-sized, thirty-foot, home-on-wheels RV. Lila stuck her head outside the window and started singing before it came to a full stop.

She parked. The door opened.

Lila hopped out. Ronny followed behind her. They were both in sundresses today. Ronny in black, Lila in pink. Ronny was an attractive woman. Yesterday after the fellas met her, they'd mentioned it, a lot.

"What is this?" I asked.

She was grinning. That sunshine grin that meant trouble.

"Tiny said me and Ronny can come with y'all on y'all's ride."

We went to North Carolina every year.

I stared at her. Then at the RV. Then at Tiny.

Tiny was suddenly very interested in his handlebars.

"The ride," I said flatly.

"On Harleys."

Lila shook her head.

"I don't really see us with bugs in our hair and face. Smelling like musky leather," she gestured at the RV.

"This is better."
