I gave him a bland expression. “Are you fucking with me right now?”
“I’m not sure,” he whispered, teasing as he leaned closer. “Are you you?”
“Pretty sure I’m me. Last I checked, I was…” I trailed off, glancing down at myself.
“Well, don’t wander off,” Vaughn warned with a tight smile. “We’ll never find you.”
“They all smell different,” Briggs rumbled. “That’s how we’ll know.”
Novak clapped his hands together once as he turned to face us. “Let’s test his senses. Trouble, run out into the crowd so we can see if he’ll find you.”
I rolled my eyes. “I’m not playing a game of Where’s Waldo.”
“We’re not.” York snorted. “It’s Where’s Sloane.”
“Funny,” I deadpanned, shaking my head.
“Well, if you’re not going to be the Waldo,” my vampire drawled, a mischievous grin crawling across his lips. “Then we will.”
“What?” York asked, readying an argument.
Novak grabbed my druid’s arm and spun, rushing across the bar. Stone put his hand on Briggs’ shoulder, and they both disappeared into the void. My stomach dropped for a moment, but no one seemed to notice him.
“They’re all glamoured,” Vaughn whispered to me as he glanced around. “There’s a strong fae in the club.”
“You sound paranoid,” my mage mumbled. “Don’t be paranoid. We’re supposed to be having a good time, not a bloody time.”
“It’s unusual,” my fae remarked.
“Where the fuck did they go?” I inquired, bristling at the clones of myself. “This isn’t the time for games.”
Palmer gave me a pointed look, sarcasm thick in his tone. “Says you, who plays games all the time.”
“What if someone is trying to kill us again?” I pressed, surveying the busy club.
“No one will do any murdering other than you,” he teased.
Vaughn scoffed at my mage. “Don’t put any ideas in her head.”
“Jack?” I called, meeting his gaze. “Do you see my mates? They’re—”
“Oh, yeah. Stone and Briggs are over here…” he interrupted, cutting his eyes to the left. “But the vampire and the druid? They’re in the middle of the dance floor.”
I groaned. “Naturally.”
“What is it?” my fae asked, stepping closer.
“Novak and York are—”
“In the crowd?” Palmer finished for me. “Yeah. They found dance partners, too.”
“I’m going to kill them,” I quietly stated.
A clone stepped in front of me, her voice oddly familiar. “You can’t kill them.”
“You sound like my sister,” Vaughn said, brows furrowed as his magic pulsed. “But you look like my mate. It’s really freaking me the fuck out.”
Glamor melted away from the clone, leaving a shimmering copper fae in all her devious glory… In the middle of my club on one of the busiest nights of the year.
