Morning
I had officially lost Vaughn.
He wasn’t tripping anymore, not really… But all the demons around us kept mentioning flashbacks, and that was worrying me. The last thing we needed was a loose fae shooting icicles at the residents of the Underworld while he was hallucinating on that green beer.
I went to the kitchen first because that was where the guys always congregated. He wasn’t there, though Jack and Lucifer were.
“Lucy. Jack,” I greeted as I glanced out the back door. “Have you seen Vaughn anywhere? I can’t find him.”
Lucifer gave me a small smile, tilting his head in the same manner that Sloane did. “I have not. Do you know where my granddaughter is?”
Jack held his hands up in surrender. “I have no idea, Lucy. With that many mates, there’s no telling where she’s at.”
“I know where she’s at. I’ll go get her,” I told them before asking, “Will you keep an eye out for Vaughn?”
“How do you know where she’s at?” Jack questioned, waggling his brows.
I tapped my temple. “And we all have trackers. You could have found her.”
“Fuck that. I’ve never been so happy not to be in her head. She is my sister, and the last thing I want to do is walk in on—” He cleared his throat when I grimaced. “Sore spot?”
“You have no idea,” I muttered. “Sloane was asleep in Briggs’ room. I’ll send her down while I look for Vaughn.”
I left the kitchen, noticing that Jack seemed like he wanted to say more. The hellsteed frowned in my direction, but I was already rounding the corner, now in search of two troublesome creatures.
I stopped at Briggs’ room, peeking into his door because it was left ajar. The scent of sex spilled out of his doorway and into the hall, making me breathe through my mouth. It would have been fucking awkward to go back to my mate’s grandfather sporting a boner.
Briggs was in the shower, but when I glanced into the bathroom, she wasn’t in there with him. So I moved on to Sloane’s room, hoping that she’d wash the wolf off before skipping down to the kitchen to find Lucy sitting at the table, sipping coffee with Jack.
I knocked but got no answer. Turning the knob, I cautiously opened the door and walked into her space as the water started running in the bathroom. I followed the sounds, trying to grab her attention to tell her about Lucy so that I could continue my search for the fae.
I heard her frustrated groan just as I saw the barest glimpse of her naked form stepping into the shower. They could wait a few minutes for her to clean up.
I opened my mind, catching her rambling thoughts.
“... where the fuck I was going with that train of thought, but I couldn’t get over some of the stuff Briggs had said. Not in a stressing over it sort of way… more like an I was a psycho girlfriend sort of way.”
I almost snorted. Almost.
But instead, I silently closed the bathroom door behind me and propped up against the counter, content with being nosy as long as I could hear her voice.
“I was definitely going to be killing some of his exes. I didn’t give a fuck how crazy that made me sound… or look. The fact that he’d let them stop him from doing the things that he enjoyed drove me insane.”
I really hoped that she killed Anna. It wouldn’t hurt my feelings if she killed Katie too. I’d fucking help her bathe in their blood.
“But more than that, knowing he’d been worried about sealing our bond before I was ready was a bit of a relief. I fucking knew I’d fall for him the moment he opened up to me, and it had been terrifyingly simple.”
I nodded along with her words. I already knew that she would slip on her feelings for Briggs and fall hard.
“There was pillow talk, for Devil’s sake. I didn’t do pillow talk. But I did with him, and I had with the others.”
I bit my lips together, shaking my head. It would be too easy to tell her to surrender to her feelings, but first, she needed to accept them.
That would make me a hypocrite, though. Because I didn’t understand them at all.
Sloane’s or mine.
