“Alicorn.”

“Like a unicorn?” Novak guessed.

“Like an alicorn,” he corrected, aggravation and offense knitting his brows together. “I’m not a fucking unicorn.”

I smiled sweetly as I poked at him. “What’s the difference?”

“Are you trying to piss me off?”

“Do I look like I need to work for that?” I sassed. “If I was trying, you’d be big mad right now.”

“This is your mate?” he asked Vaughn. “She’s delightful.”

My fae grinned. “There’s a fight on the horizon. That usually puts her in a good mood.”

“Wait.” Stone held his hand out. “What is Bowers? Do we know?”

Vaughn rolled his head to give me a smug brow raise.

“You’re kidding,” I drawled.

He shook his head.

“Bowers is a fucking horse?” I raged.

He nodded.

“He’s not a horse,” Thatcher snapped. “He’s a fucking alicorn with wings and a horn.”

“Same difference,” I growled, then glared at the ground as I massaged my temples. “I hate what I’m about to ask…”

“What’s that, Sweetheart?” York teased, his accent thicker than normal as he smiled at me.

I could feel the amusement from all of my mates. Our bonds were just littered humor and excitement.

I wanted to claw my eyes out.

“Thatcher,” I called quietly. “I need to know what your shifted form looks like.”

“Why?”

“So I don’t accidentally kill you.”

He huffed, but walked into the edge of the treeline to shift. I shivered as the alicorn came trotting back out. He wasn’t as big as Jack, but still… It didn’t matter what fancy species name he had… He was a fucking horse.

I studied the sooty purple coloring of his hide, noting all the white and gray dappling on his flanks. His mane, tail, and wings were black. So were his hooves, and his gigantic beady eyes as he stared at me.

“Bowers doesn’t look like him, right?” I inquired, hoping like Hell that I didn’t have to touch the fucking horse.

“Bowers is white with some green spotting,” Vaughn explained. “He’s not as flashy as Thatcher.”

“I won’t kill you by mistake now…” I trailed off, staring at the alicorn’s snout. “But I can’t say I won’t swing if you get too close.”

“That’s enough, Thatcher,” Vaughn said, then turned to my guys. “He’s going to take you to the palace. There’s one more thing Sloane and I need to do before we come back.”

Briggs nodded. “Meet us in the room?”

“Yeah. Expect company, too,” my fae told them.
