“Attack him,” Alania bellowed, pointing at Vaughn.
Frost covered our fae, stretching across the floor and climbing up the walls as he shook in his anger. Snow speckled the air. The temperature dropped to sub zero levels. My lungs felt brittle with each breath I took.
Bowers shifted into an alicorn, and I suddenly realized this was why Trouble had wanted to see Thatcher’s shifted form. They looked completely different, but she wouldn’t have paid any attention if she hadn’t known what to watch for.
He thundered toward Vaughn, his hooves unstable on the slippery marble floor. Steam raised from his white coat, and fog formed as he snorted. Vaughn gave one powerful push, sending him sliding in the opposite direction.
Sloane laughed, her voice reverberating around us in that eerie thousand-person echo. Then she began humming the circus theme song aloud to drive everyone insane.
I wanted to choke her.
That fucking song would be stuck in my head for days.
She ran from one column to the next, slowing her song each time Alania missed an attack. The tempo was barely a crawl when Sloane finally stopped playing around. She hit Alania in the chest with a blue flame, scorching her skin and clothing before the false queen could drench herself in water.
Bowers flapped his massive wings, touching the ceiling, then circling around to kick at Vaughn. Our fae stabbed him in the stomach with an icicle, causing the alicorn to whinny as he raced away.
Vaughn slid behind the column with Sloane, shaking his head once. They swapped sides, switching opponents like this was the plan all along.
As they stepped out from behind the column together, Sloane’s head tilted a little too far to the right while she sized up the alicorn. Vaughn formed two icicles—thicker than Briggs’ dick—in his palms, twirling his wrists like he was stretching them.
And then shit hit the fan.
For real this time.
Vaughn charged, swinging at Alania so quickly all she could do was duck and dodge him. She got a couple of strikes in, but they didn’t slow our fae down. If anything, they fueled him, causing him to move faster.
Sloane went head-to-head with a horse. Her demon wasn’t scared of him, which I found oddly funny. Not that I would tease her about it now…
Bowers kicked Sloane in the chest, sending her tumbling through the wall. The wall beside the opened throne room doors. And right into the hall where the rest of the battle was raging.
Silence followed, and Bowers turned his attention to Vaughn.
Only an idiot would take their eyes off Sloane King after pissing her off.
That was a grave mistake that would cost him his life.

Night
The fae before me swung his sword fiercely.
I jumped back, the tip of his weapon catching a button on my shirt, too close for comfort. A rod of yellow lightning shot from my palm, hitting him in the thigh. He stumbled backward, but recovered too quickly.
He took one step toward me.
And Sloane came careening through the wall, slamming into the fae before they both smashed into the opposite wall in a cloud of broken plaster.
She launched to her feet, dusting herself off as she glanced from the downed fae to me and back again.
“Sorry about that.”
“No problem, Love.” I raised a brow. “You good?”
She winked as she stepped over the rumble, her sole focus on whoever had just shoved her through the wall.
I surveyed the hall, taking stock of all the downed soldiers. The guys had paired up, corralling the Summers toward Tilly. She picked them off, one at a time, with sleep-spelled arrows. Ruby spun as she crouched, slicing a man across the back of his knees.
