“Did you have time?” she continued.

I quietly thanked a cocktail waitress as she dropped new drinks off at our table.

“No,” I finally conceded, downing a shot of tequila and slamming the glass on the table in frustration.

“We didn’t have time, but neither of us knew that until after the spell was complete. I don’t think I’d be so angry and upset with him if he would have told me the truth. Even after the fact would have been better than him not saying anything. The only reason I know now is because I overheard his thoughts. That’s a shitty way to find out about something that devastated you.”

“I agree,” Millie commented, turning to Hyde. “Your mate is staring a hole through you. How do you not feel him?”

“Oh, I feel him,” she murmured, rubbing at her forehead with her middle finger. The movement reminded me of Briggs, but she was more aggressive about it than my wolf.

“You can add him to the list of dudes being dicks. If I knew it would hurt him, I’d stab him.”

Miller chewed on the corner of her bottom lip for a moment. “You mean if you knew it wouldn’t hurt him?”

I almost spit my drink out as I chuckled. “No, she means what she said. If you had been thirty seconds later in pulling us away, you would have seen Hyde launch herself at the necromancer. He’s not the most tactful person I’ve ever met.”

Hyde leaned over to glare at me before requesting, “Tell Stone and York to make him stop staring at us.”

“You. He’s staring at you.”

The three of us grew quiet as a stranger stopped at the edge of our table. I could physically feel the guys watching us, so I tossed a flirty wink at Stone when I met his eyes.

“Evening, ladies.”

“Felix?” Hyde questioned eagerly.

He patted his chest. “Craig.”

“Not interested, Craig. Thanks, though.” She picked her drink up, sipping delicately from her straw.

He furrowed his brow, shaking his head in confusion as he walked back to the bar, not understanding that she used her persuasion power to push him away from us.

“That’s one of the guys Felix pays to watch me while I’m here.”

“Let him watch,” I told Miller. “We’re just three girls having a quiet night to ourselves. There’s nothing to see.”

“Yet.” Hyde grinned mischievously. “Ask one of the guys to get us another round of drinks. That Craig guy is standing at the bar. Let’s stir some shit up.”

“Yes, ma’am,” I replied, tipping my imaginary hat.

I reached out to my mates, gently brushing against their minds before pulling them into mine. “Hyde would like you to ask Arwen to stop staring at her like a creep. And collectively, we’d like to stir some shit up.”

“Whatever you want, Sweetheart.”

“The guy that just left our table?” I inquired, pointing our target out as my demon stood.

“I wasn’t watching you that closely.”

Stone’s mental voice held a layer of amusement that made me roll my eyes at his back. I watched him swagger across the bar like a dark god, cloaked in shadows and ink.

“He works for Felix, and he’s standing at the bar. Would you be a dear and order us some fresh drinks, please?”

“I’ll do whatever you want as long as you never call me dear. Ever. Again.” He was so outraged that I nearly cackled.

“Agreed,” York chimed in. “My grandma called me dear.”

“Stop smiling like that,” Hyde hissed at me. “You look like you’ve lost your mind, all dreamy and drunk while you dirty talk with your mates in your head.”
