“It’s just blood, Novak,” she whispered in my ear, making me jump. “I figured our guests wouldn’t appreciate a live feeding, so…” she motioned to the bottle.
“I’m actually curious,” Hyde remarked, taking juice out of the fridge and grabbing a tall cup to mix herself a cocktail. “Is it weird that I want to watch?”
“You want to watch them have sex?” Dolyn inquired, disgusted with his sister.
The little succubus huffed at him. “No. I want to watch him feed or eat… devour her? What’s the right word?”
“Oh, they’re all right, depending on what we’re doing,” I admitted, taking a sip of my liquid meal. Sloane’s honeysuckle flavor was perfect, but it wasn’t as good as having her writhe in my hands, coming on my cock as I pierced her—
Sloane cleared her throat, quirking a brow at me.
“What?” I mouthed, noticing Stone shaking his head at me.
“Either way,” Trouble began, “you're basically saying you want to see me orgasm. I don’t know that we’ve reached that point in our relationship, Hyde.”
The little succubus gagged. “Uhm. No. We haven’t. I love you, but I’ve definitely changed my mind. That’s not an image that even bleach could erase from my memory.”
Sloane shrugged at her, pouring tequila into a shot glass. “So, what now?” she mused out loud, picking up Dolyn’s question from the battlefield.
“That’s what we’d like to know.” He gestured around the table, swirling his finger in the air.
She sighed, tossing her shot back and making another. “There’s a ton of nasty shit going on outside of the Underworld, D. Raguel has hit all the supernatural races in one way or another. The mer are almost extinct, the dragons are being hunted. It’s just a matter of time before he makes his rounds to the mages and the fae.”
Shot two was downed before she continued. I poured her another. “We’ve secured the vampires and now the demons, but we still need to handle the shifters. The angel hasn’t been able to breach the druid’s realm, but again, I’m sure it’s just a matter of time.
Shot three down the hatch, and she pushed the glass away, taking a long swig straight from the bottle.
“He’s got influence, power, and patience. He’s been diligently tearing everyone down, and we can’t stop the damage that’s already been done. All we can do is meet the problems head on; kill the people who are mindlessly following him and best him at his own game.”
She sighed once more, staring straight into the neck of the tequila bottle in her hand. “Until we came here, we’ve been at least one step behind the threats. But I’m hoping that if we can take care of the pack situations, then we can cut him off before he makes it to the fae and mages.”
“Where are you getting this information from?” Dolyn asked, rubbing his chin as he took his own shot. “I know we’ve talked about some of it, but not all of it.”
“Several different places,” Sloane admitted before pouring her tequila into a cup that Hyde handed her.
She gnawed on the straw, then huffed at herself.
“I’ve just been piecing the puzzle together slowly. It was starting to look more like abstract art or a mosaic, but there are things that we’re still missing. And being in the Underworld means that we’ve been cut off from the other races, so we have no way of knowing what’s happened in the last week.
“Sarge, a dragon acquaintance of mine, told me the information about the other races. He was following the trails that were being left in the dragon realm, and they led him to seek out other supes.” She shrugged, not really knowing what else to say about Sarge.
“And then there’s the fae-mage with no first name whom we can’t track. He’s been trying to lead us on a wild goose chase, saying he has Amelia King when we’re pretty positive that she’s in the winter queen’s dungeon.
“That’s where Father is right now, you know?” She chuckled humorlessly, sloshing the tequila around in her cup. “He somehow snuck into the fae realm, found her, and we haven’t heard from him since. But Papi and Dad didn’t want to tell Jack and me about that. Lucy told me.”
“So, now we have to save him also?” Jack asked in disbelief, snatching a bottle of his own.
“Yep,” Trouble quipped, adding a splash of juice to her drink.
The hellsteed rolled his shoulders back, sitting ramrod straight in his chair. “Well, just add that to our mile-long list of bullshit to do next week. This week is full. As your advisor, I’m suggesting that you take tomorrow off.”
Grim snorted at him. “She keeps drinking like that and she’ll be nursing a hangover all morning. Then she’ll be grumpy as fuck all day, and we’ll have to lock her and Hyde in a room together so they can—”
“So we can what, Grim?” Hyde questioned the reaper sweetly. She’d no doubt learned that tone from Sloane; they sounded like they shared the same poison.
“And what poison would that be, Novak?” My mate’s tone was identical to Hyde’s as she read my mind. If the little succubus wasn’t higher pitched than Sloane, I’d swear they were the same person when they spoke.
I flashed both girls my megawatt grin, holding my hands up in surrender. “The kind that tastes like the cherry on top of a banana split-your-face-open sundae. It was a compliment, not an insult.”
