“It’s Wednesday. We are supposed to spend time together before Noah and Maurice come over,” I grumbled.
“That was Vincent. He wouldn’t call me if it weren’t important. I’ll make it up to you. I promise.”
“You can’t make it up to me because we can’t get this time back,” I pouted. “But whatever. I could be interviewing my replacement for the tour. Just in case it comes to that. What is life?” I sighed as he slipped out of the bed.
“Why do you need a tentative replacement?”
“Oh yeah, I never told you. They tacked on possession charges because they found the Xanax in my purse.”
“You didn’t have a prescription?” Xain inquired.
“Nope,” I shrugged. “Stepp got them for me because my old psychiatrist retired, and when my prescription ran out, my new one told me she didn’t feel comfortable prescribing me Xanax so soon. I need it to fly, so I had to do what I had to do.”
“What are they talking about?”
“I don’t know yet, but Alexander went over all of the potential options, and probation might be my best bet. What are they talking about for your case?”
“A bunch of bullshit,” he quipped before disappearing into his walk-in closet. “Everything is going to work out. Q’s label even offered one of their lawyers. They have too much money riding on that tour.”
I pulled the covers tighter over me and melted into his pillows. Xain’s bed felt like mine since he upgraded his pillows.
“I’ll see you later.” Xain leaned down and pecked my lips. My eyes popped open, and I stared up into his dreamy eyes. “The key to my truck is on the dresser for whenever you’re ready to leave. There is also a house key on there for you to lock up. I’ll have dinner delivered even if I’m not back at your spot. I told Maurice I’d buy him pizza and wings.”
“Okay. I just need a little nap before I head home. I’m glad you’re leaving anyway. I can go through your shit in peace. You better hope I don’t find anything suspicious. I’d hate to have to dig into my bag of villainous tricks.”
“There ain’t shit to find,” he rebutted.
“I’m sure there isn’t. You don’t want these problems,” I quipped.
Xain pecked my lips again and stared at me for a second before kissing me again.
“I love you,” I cooed.
“I love you too.” Xain grinned.
Hearing those words leave his lips without my pussy on his breath was solidifying. He swaggered out of the bedroom, and I let out a deep breath while excitedly kicking my feet. I found love in the most unexpected place.
CHAPTER FOURTEEN
Xain
Stepp’s BNB was only a few minutes away from my house, and he was pulling up by the time I walked out of the door. We met Vincent at an abandoned warehouse. The dark, damp warehouse had seen better days. Everything in there was rusted, and only one light above us flickered as it rocked back and forth. Everybody was dressed down, but Tech had the added measure of a ski mask.
I laughed once I saw him standing next to Vincent, clicking around on his laptop.
“Tech found D3 and hooked us up with some raw shit,” Stepp bragged gleefully as we closed in on them in the dark space.
“What’s that?” I inquired as I heard one of the bay doors opening.
I turned around to watch the bay door while walking backward. Usually I was in the loop, but I didn’t know what the fuck was going on.
“Let me try it,” Stepp requested.
Tech passed him the laptop. “Just don’t kill the nigga.”
“What is it?” I queried, walking over to look at the laptop screen.
“Bitch nigga delivery,” Stepp laughed, nodding towards the single bay door that opened just as I reached them.
