Sammy waved his hand at Noah. “Say less.” He nodded at Chase. “Keep going.”
“He’s…I don’t know. He’s really mature but in a kind way. Like when I have a problem he always takes care of me. He, uhm…he listens to me. Like, really listens, as if he cares about what I’m saying, cares about how I’m feeling, you know?”
“That sounds really nice,” Sammy said.
“Yeah. It’s been super nice, honestly. He…he makes me feel safe.”
Sammy smiled wide. “That’s really cool. Have you two…you know…”
Chase glanced at Noah, who was staring at his food as if it were the most interesting thing in the world. “Uhm, yeah.” He dropped his voice into a whisper even though Noah would obviously still be able to hear him. “I bought this cool camera that you can click with a remote.”
Sammy’s eyes lit up. “Oh, my God. What does he look like?”
“Well, I haven’t seen his face, but his body is…so hot. Thick thighs, furry chest. And he’s…” Chase held his hands a good width apart as if he were measuring something large.
Noah began coughing uncontrollably.
Sammy turned towards him. “Are you dying?”
“Need…water,” Noah choked, getting up.
“There’s water right there,” Sammy pointed out.
“New water.” Noah disappeared into the kitchen.
Chase winced. “Sorry. Too much?”
“No, oh my God. He’s just been super weird about this app. And he’s kind of weird about Omega stuff in general, honestly. Not in a bad way, but like he doesn’t want to offend me.”
“Do you think I offended him?”
“No, dude, he’s fine. Now, tell me more about this big-dicked Alpha of yours.”
In the kitchen, the coughing started again.
Sammy rolled his eyes. “He does that every time I say the word ‘dick.’ ”
“Yeah…I wonder why,” Chase drawled.
“Anyway, you gonna meet up with him?”
“Uhm…I don’t know. I don’t think he wants to.”
“Do you want to?”
“I mean, yes, obviously, but also not really? I just don’t want to disappoint him. Or be disappointed. This is working for now, you know? There’s the whole…” he gestured to his scent gland.
Chase liked how things were now. He didn’t have to worry about his scent. Didn’t have to wonder if the Alpha was secretly turned off by his lack of pheromones. Didn’t have to see his disappointed face when Chase’s flat smell hit him.
This was safe. No faces, no scents. He could even keep hockey out of it—it wasn’t like he thought Aunix would expose all the videos Chase was sending, but better safe than sorry.
More than anything…Aunix thought Chase was good. Perfect, he kept saying. But Chase wasn’t perfect, not even close. He knew Aunix would figure it out eventually, especially if they met…but he wanted to postpone that heartbreak as much as he could.
Sammy nodded in understanding. “I get you. But…don’t forget that you got on Lookr to build a connection so that sharing your scent wouldn’t be as scary. Obviously do what you’re doing, have fun, get closer to this guy, but don’t let fear stop you from meeting him if it eventually comes to that.”
“Yeah,” Chase mumbled.
Frankly, it wasn’t something Chase wanted to think about yet. If the time came that meeting up was a real possibility, he’d figure it out then.
