Every drop of my blood in my body turns to ice. I creep toward the bedroom door, another knock sounding as I crane my head to look down the stairs. My phone vibrates again, the feel of it making me jolt. A message flashes on the screen, the WiFi suddenly reconnected. How the fuck are they doing that?!

Unknown

Come downstairs.

I stare at it, my head spinning as I almost laugh at the absurdity of it. Absolutely fucking not.

Me

No.

Unknown

Violet.

My stomach clenches. I hate the way they use my name. I hate it, yet my body reacts. My thighs clenching involuntarily. Slut.

Me

Please leave.

Unknown

Come downstairs.

I grip the pepper spray tighter, doing my best to square my shoulders and breathe.

Me

I’m calling the police.

Unknown

No, you’re not.

My mouth goes dry. The knocking comes again. Three times. Slow and almost patient as if he knows I’m eventually going to obey. And the really fucked-up part? Some tiny, shameful piece of me kind of wants to.

Unknown

Good girls follow instructions.

Heat punches through the fear, my body battling with itself for which feeling is going to dominate. Terror. Or pure lust. I can’t quite tell if my pulse is racing because I’m scared and filled with adrenaline, or because my submissive side is screaming at the prospect of the person on the other side of that door being the ultimate mask-daddy-dom.

No, Violet. Jesus Christ. Stop it. What the fuck is wrong with me?

Unknown

Come downstairs, pretty girl.

I groan, squeezing my eyes shut. Fuuuuck my life. This isn’t hot. A masked stranger with a knife standing outside an isolated cabin is not hot. It is literally the beginning of every horror movie I’ve ever watched. Except… none of those girls had a praise kink strong enough to get them murdered.

The knock comes again and I open my eyes. With my pepper spray raised in one hand, phone in the other, I step onto the landing. One step. Then another. My legs feel like jelly beneath me. I reach the stairs, the front door fully visible from where I’m standing. There’s nobody standing on the other side of the narrow glass panel beside it.

I descend slowly, half way down my phone vibrating.

Unknown

There she is.
