Talia works it out before I have the chance to explain. “Did she ask you to break up with me and get back together with her?”
I nod, still reeling from the confrontation with my ex-girlfriend.
“I hope you said no.”
“I said no.”
“Good,” she bites out, looking as furious as I’ve been feeling since leaving Gen’s office.
With Talia on my same page about this, the guilt that has been twisting my gut all afternoon should dissipate. But it doesn’t.
“Yeah?” I cup her jaw, ready to do the unthinkable if she asks. “You don’t blame me for not saying yes? It would probably fix this for you.”
“You don’t know that,” Talia says. “There’s no guarantee that Cantucci would believe us. She might still punish us and have us both expelled. And you getting back with Gen to protect me, would be as bad as me sleeping with Victor to get out of this situation. I would never ask you to do that, Macklin.”
Relief floods me at her words. But it’s the way she’s looking at me that makes my pulse speed up as if I were skating suicide drills. “You wouldn’t?” My question comes out husky as my blood converges south.
Talia shakes her head. “Never. We have a deal, remember?”
How could I ever forget?
“Baby, about that deal…”
I want to end it. I want you to be mine for real. For as long as you want me. Hopefully forever.
The words are on the tip of my tongue, but Talia interrupts me.
“We obviously need to up our game if Gen thinks that she can talk you into getting back with her.” Her tone is stern. “She obviously isn’t getting the message that you two are over.”
The truth is that I think Gen has gotten the message. That’s why she tried to bargain with me. Because she sees the way I look at Talia. Like she’s the only woman in the room. The only woman in the world.
“Besides,” she continues. “I was hoping that you could help me with something tonight.”
My curiosity has the best of me. “What do you need?”
The way her teeth torment her bottom lip goes straight to my cock. “You know I have that date with Becks in a couple of days.”
How could I forget? A part of me wanted to punch my brother in the face when he asked her out. In front of me. The only reason why I didn’t do it is that I know Talia wants this. She wants him.
“I’m listening.”
Her eyes drift down for a moment, her face flushing pink. “You said you would teach me how to keep him interested in bed.”
Don’t fucking remind me.
But I ignore the voice in my head. I’m a man of my word. “Of course. Anything you need.”
When Talia lifts her gaze to meet mine, she blushes harder. “I couldn’t concentrate in any of my classes today. So I did some research on my phone. You know the #BunnyCorner? They’re really popular on campus.”
I can’t resist rolling my eyes. “Vaguely.”
Talia’s lips curl into a knowing smile as she calls my bluff. “Really? You should check it out. You’re in it.”
It’s my turn to blush. “You don’t say.”
“Yeah. Every puck bunny on campus who hooks up with hockey players usually updates it. Even though to get a bunny card and be considered an official puck bunny, they need to prove they hooked up with more than three players.”
The more she talks about it, the more I fear that this is about to bite me in the ass. I wasn’t interested in checking that hashtag, but I heard from some of my teammates that some of the cheerleaders I hooked up with in the summer spilled all the details on social media and used the bunny corner hashtag.
