Zaire is glaring at everyone while standing over Khione, who is sitting primly on the couch trying to look innocent, a giant white bear in her lap.
Sofia sits down at the table, her pack follow her.
“What are you doing here?” I ask, thoroughly out of patience with her and my family in general.
“Who are the alphas who just left?” Sofia asks.
“Gian?” Jace asks. “The guy in the shirt?”
“Yes,” Sofia says absently as she cuts and plates the cake.
“My brother. You know Gian.”
“THAT’S GIAN? He glowed up.”
“Grow, you mean grow,” Eli corrects.
“No, he was hot when we were younger, but he’s like off the charts hot now. I might trade you three in.”
Devon grabs her chin. “Try it, and I will feed him to the fishes.”
“The other guy is Harvest; he’s my best friend. I guess almost like a brother. We grew up together.” Khione bounces to the table and sits down, watching the cake with a hunter’s gaze.
Sofia studies us. “Are they staying for the summer?”
I chuckle. “I should have known.”
Sofia blushes, looking down at the table.
“What is it?” Clint says, looking between us.
“You’re here on behalf of the devil,” I spit in betrayal. Anger simmers in my veins.
“No, I…” Sofia looks up at the ceiling. “She has me by the balls, I have no choice but to obey her every humiliating whim. She demands and I go and get it done, and she wants Gian and Harvest for the next matchmaking event.”
“I mean, you could approach them, but Harvest will probably just laugh in your face,” Khione says thoughtfully.
Sofia nods as if she expected nothing less. “Okay, we tried. We shall tell her no. Thank you.”
She sits there and then blinks, looking up at us. “Are you going to eat the cake?”
“Aren’t you going to leave?” Clint asks, matching her tone.
“Oh, no, I need thirty minutes before I dare show my face in Sunshine Cove again. So, eat, we’re killing time.”
“You could take them to your lighthouse and fuck them,” I suggest.
Sofia looks at me, stands up, and turns to her alphas. “Thirty minutes?”
Eli bites his lip. “It will be difficult, but I can sacrifice for you.”
Mack grumbles a laugh.
Devon winks at us and herds his pack out of the house, leaving us alone. The mood isn’t dead, but it’s tinged with hesitation now.
“Can we lock the doors and watch a movie?” I ask.
The naked looks of gratitude from the pack make me glad I suggested it. Plus…I really want to snuggle.
