I flinch. Zaire is tense and sets a hand on my thigh but doesn’t take his eyes off Clint.
“Want to catch up tomorrow night? We can watch a movie?” he asks Jace, popping his hand on his hip, his eyes dangerous.
Jace clenches his teeth, his face white.
There’s a heavy, dangerous silence in the room.
“Oh, yeah, that’s right. You’ve got a date.”
Jace stands up, his chair tipping over. Zaire sits back in his, looking up at the ceiling. Pretending he can’t see it, but I can tell he’s watching intently.
Wait. Jace has a date? Tomorrow?
Possessive fury fills me, though it takes everything I have to keep it under control.
“You have a date?” Khione asks in a tiny voice.
Her eyes are huge and hurt. I snap my glare at the alpha and let out a feral growl. I might be an omega, but I’m not an omega like anyone’s ever seen. Asher likes to refer to me as having two sides. The side of me that’s in control and the one that isn’t.
I stand up.
“Don’t go.”
The words have slipped out of me before I can take them back.
Everyone looks at me. I ignore them and focus on Jace.
“I have to. I promised my mum.”
I slam my hand on the table. “Don’t go, Alpha.”
Jace inhales sharply, shuddering. “This is a commitment I made. I have no interest in her.”
“Do. Not. Go.” I say through gritted teeth.
Jace grabs his keys. “I think it’s best I leave. Clint, you can drive them home, can’t you?”
“DON’T GO!” I roar.
Jace presses his lips together and walks out.
I stand there, shaking. My whole body vibrating, the hurt, the ache consuming all of me.
“Well, that is absolutely not to be borne.”
Khione paces past me to the window, staring out until she’s certain he’s gone. Then she turns back with a massive smile and grabs my shoulders. “Felix, have you ever kidnapped a cop?”
My stomach drops out, and my mouth stretches wide in a smile that is an echo of hers. I shake my head, unable to find words.
Her eyes shine with absolute mischief.
“Do you want to?”
I almost say no, but then I imagine him with this mystery her, and I snarl and nod my head.
“I, uh, hate to be the voice of reason, but kidnapping police is very, very illegal,” Clint says with no conviction whatsoever.
Khione waves her hand dismissively. “Semantics.”
