“Welcome to Trick Knot Treat, where we know you are looking for something sweet.”

I groan at the horror of whoever came up with that opening line. For some reason, my gaze heads to Sofia, who is again, doubled over laughing. Nothing suspicious at all.

“Tonight we’re going to help our matches go on a date that will truly test them. Let’s see how they respond to nature, nurture, and protective instincts.”

What?

I don’t realise I’ve said it aloud until several people turn around to glare at me.

Spectre presses against my leg. I try not to think of all the horrible ways they are throwing Zaire in the deep end. He will be all right, won’t he? This is all my fault, I shouldn’t have made him do it.

“Why doesn’t she throw them in the deep end, then? Who thought up this stupidity?” I mutter.

“Uh, I did.”

I whip around and stare at Sofia Sol. Damn it.

“You thought this was a good idea?” I ask her, horrified.

“Well, I mean, it’s romantic-”

“If you know a person.”

Sofia’s eyes widen, and she looks around in a panic. “Oh, OH!”

I glance at her and see the horror on her face, and it’s hard to be mad when she looks so adorably hysterical.

“I told Mum I would help. I promised.” Sofia grasps at her chest, her auburn hair flying. “She’s going to kill me!”

“I’m sure she won’t.” I’m a little alarmed by the panic on the elder Sol daughter’s face.

“Oh, no. She will. I want you to tell my pack I love them.”

I give her the side-eye while I keep watch on the alphas.

“Oh, oh, oh. So dead.”

“What’s wrong and who am I killing?” Booms a voice beside me.

I let out an undignified squeak. Spectre presses closer, giving the newcomer the stink eye.

Devon glares at everyone around Sofia. Including me and Spectre. He’s fierce and slightly terrifying. Devon Hart is a Sunshine Cove legend. Everyone talks about his and Sebastian’s antics. It’s funny, but there aren’t any stories like that about Felix. Asher, yes, Sofia, certainly, Cordelia as well. Even Clint and Jace have their own reputations, but all anyone will tell you about Felix is that he owns the art gallery and is the youngest son of the Sol family.

Curious.

“Me!” Sofia wails. “I stuffed up. This, uh…” Sofia looks at me and blinks.

I internally shake my head. Everyone here would be dead if I were a serial killer. I’m honestly tempted to take up the hobby.

“You’re new, right?” Sofia asks hesitantly.

The urge to roll my eyes is almost impossible to resist, but I manage.

“Been here for a few months, actually.”

Her cheeks redden.

“No shit,” Devon says. “I can’t say I’ve seen you around before.”
