“You’re quite funny, little omega.”
“I’m a beta.”
I don’t answer her, instead matching my stride to hers and leading her up to Zaire’s door.
He opens it as if he’s on the other side just waiting for us to get up there and looks between us like he’s waiting for her to burst into hysterical tears and beg for him to save her.
I flutter my lashes at him.
He grabs her wrist, yanks her inside, and slams the door in my face.
Well, that is rude and adorable.
“Lo Lix.”
Jace and Clint have somehow crept right up on me, their tangled scents intoxicating and infuriatingly irresistible as always. Iris and leather for Jace and linseed and sawdust for Clint. The two alpha’s scents blend so perfectly that they are almost impossible to resist. I have spent years avoiding the crap out of these two alphas, and here I am, matched up, paired up, ready to be stuck with them forever.
The irony, the injustice, hurts me.
The door opens, and Zaire glowers at us.
Now, if Khione is a sweet treat, Zaire is a steak. He’s a whole damn meal, and every time I get close, coffee and woodsmoke hits me hard. I want to bite him so hard my mouth waters just being around him.
Why does everyone I like smell like something so damn edible? Irresistible? Jace brushes close to me, his eyes flaring with interest.
“Morning, Felix.”
I grumble-growl a hello. The problem is that while I’m going to be hunting her, trying to win her from the massive alpha, they are going to be hunting me.
Trying to win me over.
Trying to seduce me.
Not happening, not on my watch. I have a plan. They can try to win me over, but all the while, I’m going to take that omega and make her mine. I won’t let them close enough to hurt me again.
My damn scent matches had no idea I was walking around beside them all this time, why should I care now?
“Let’s go hunt some rocks.”
Khione looks relieved, but my smile drops when I see who is joining us.
“Hello, Spectre,” I say hesitantly. You’d make the best blanket for in front of our winter fire.
As if he can hear my random thought, he lifts his lips, showing off those enormous teeth. I step back and quickly put myself behind Clint.
“You know, dogs are the best judges of character. Perhaps you are a bad one.”
I exhale and close my eyes, counting to ten. “By all means, I dare you to say that to my mother.”
Clint gets pale and looks at his feet. “It’s just a saying. Didn’t mean anything by it.”
Zaire shoves through us, leading Khione, the stupid dog, and Clint and Jace towards the beach. I turn, watching them leave me on the porch.
These alphas don’t deserve me. Yet, there’s that stupid yearning in my chest that says that I want them to deserve me. And to think that I deserve them.
Well, if they are going to have me, then they are going to have to prove they are worthy. I reach behind my shoulder and yank off the suppressant patch.
“Game on, assholes. We’re playing on expert mode now.”
