“You’re really here? You’re all in? No take-backs? No running away?”
“No. It’s you and me forever, regardless of everyone else.” I shake my head. “Idiot.”
He stands up and throws his arms around me, squeezing me tight.
“However, we lucked out. Zaire is waiting for us. Let's go find our omega and then the other one.”
The rest of the day passes with no word.
A whole day passes and then another lonely night. Zaire, Clint, and I continue to search, making calls, going without sleep.
Our omegas are missing.
We don’t eat.
We don’t sleep.
We don’t stop.
I spot Asher on the beach. She has a backpack on and is moving determinedly. I follow at a distance, texting Clint and Zaire and letting them know.
I have no shame, and I absolutely will stalk the twin if it will lead me to him.
She goes out onto the rocks and starts climbing her way around the cove, heading to the cliffs and beaches beyond. I have two seconds to think about it before I take off after her. It looks easy, but the rocks shift under my weight, I find myself backtracking when the ocean cuts me off.
I’m hot, sweaty, and frustrated when I hear their voices. Just hearing his voice calms the storm in me. I feel so relieved. I just slump against the rock, and their words just wash over me until they start making sense.
“Felix, what the fuck are you saying? What do you mean they won’t want you?”
I perk up, shoving off the rock, straining to hear.
“I’m just me. I’m grumpy and moody. Asher, look at me, I’m Felix Sol, the weird Sol. The antisocial Sol. For a moment, she made me more. But she’s gone, and I can’t breathe without her. How am I supposed to exist in a world where she isn’t?”
“You get your ass up, you go and find those alphas that have been tearing Sunshine Cove apart trying to find you, and then you go after your girl. Why is this even a question? You are her stubborn, creepy stalker, you know everything about her. Leaving those gifts you think I didn’t know about? You thought you were so sly.”
“I didn’t know this!” Felix moans. “I had no idea about them. Harvest! That asshole.”
“So what? Are you going to let a group of wannabe bikers stop you from getting your omega? You have only one life. We already got our second chance, Felix. I’m not sure how many more we’re going to get.”
“I thought you hated her?”
“Oh, yeah, I hate the omega that is my twin’s scent match. Smart. I think she’s awesome. I think your pack is great. But I’ll admit I’m jealous as hell, and I miss you already, but I’m happy for you, Felix. Well, I was, now, I pity you.”
“Shove your pity.”
“Get up. Enough of this. You need to go and have a bath and a shave and get, like, less stinky. Have you been out here the whole time?”
“I climbed the cliff.”
There's silence. I peer up at the cliff. He climbed that. It’s steep and full of patches of shale and grass.
“Ow!”
“I’ll freaking hit you again if you do anything else as stupid as that. What is your malfunction in life?”
“Nothing. I’m fine. What are you talking about? It’s just a cliff. OW! Stop hitting me.”
“You climb another cliff, and I will break your leg to make sure that you can’t. I am your older sister, I can do anything I want to you, and I swear, if you keep up this crap, I will take you out and let Banjo beat you. Now, get up, and let’s get going.”
