The dog lowers his head and moves to hide behind Zaire.
I pout prettily. “Not me.”
“Oh, but you’re a Sol, everyone loves you,” she says, her cheeks turning red.
“Just because I have a name that comes with a reputation doesn’t mean that I’m good at anything,” I say with a whole lot of bitterness I didn’t mean to reveal.
“That was never a truer word spoken. Omega Lix is a giant prat with a stick so far up his ass he may as well be hanging from the moon,” Clint says helpfully.
I glare at him, he glares back. Oh, yeah, I remember why I hate Clint.
He wasn’t my bully, we had a mutual hate thing happening for years. The end of school was evil. The thought of never having to see him again was a relief, but I was slammed with the discovery that we are scent matches. No amount of trying to fix things could mend that bridge. It was a nightmare I have been trying to hide from for years.
Of the two, Jace is the more logical, polite alpha, Clint is just happy and an emotional train wreck.
Jace is cool tempered and mean when he wants to be, but, my god, I have seen this alpha fuck, and it put me in a damn omega rut for weeks. He moves like a Greek god.
Look away from the evil alpha, look right the fuck away.
Khione’s eyes are wide, and I’m falling into them. I’m so nervous I think I might throw up, but I’m making my play. That’s got to count for something? At least I’m talking to her. I haven’t thrown up or passed out from the anxiety that is threatening to split my head open.
That’s a step up from where I was.
“You want my help to court your alphas?” she whispers.
“Yes, please,” I say and stumble back, collapsing on the edge of the couch, breathing hard. “Sorry, I just get nervous.” It’s a total act, well, I tell myself it’s an act, but the truth is that it’s way too real, more real than I want to let anyone know. She rushes to me anyway, her hands hovering but not yet touching me.
Clint narrows his eyes, not believing me at all, but Jace rushes to get me a glass of water that he spills all over the dog on the way back.
Spectre howls in protest.
Shit, this is a mess.
“Oh, don’t be nervous. I can help, it will be fun. I know all the things that Zaire likes,” her voice is strained, but she sounds determined.
“Khione,” the big alpha warns, his voice like gravel and rage.
My shoulder is where I want him to bite me. I picture it, I can almost feel it. His and hers, a matching pair.
She reaches out and lays a careless hand on his arm. She doesn’t see his stricken face or the way the tension collapses out of him and softness takes over.
Is it possible for two omegas to have the same alpha? I don’t mind sharing my alphas with her, as long as she’s mine.
I push the question aside, it deserves much more thought than I have the time to give it. By the time Khione turns to him, Zaire is composed and glaring at the wall above my head like it’s the wall’s fault we are all in this position.
“Let’s meet tomorrow. You can help me and Zaire find the stones for the next event. We were planning on meeting up, but it would be good to have you along, too.”
“I’m coming, too,” Jace says in a firm voice.
Clint grunts his agreement.
The massive dog walks into the room, glaring at everyone balefully and then leaning into the furious-looking alpha as we all follow her onto the porch.
“Right, see you all tomorrow. I need to go and…um…dinner,” she says.
I think I made her cry, and I hate myself for it, but I’m going to make it up to her, every day from tomorrow until forever.
And just like that, she’s gone. We spring away from each other.
