ME: Maybe. Are you free tonight?

RACHEL: Depends. Am I being summoned for questioning?

ME: Something like that.

RACHEL: Should I bring my lawyer?

ME: Just wear something pretty. And easy to remove.

RACHEL: Are handcuffs considered an accessory?

I’m crazy about this woman.

At seven o’clock sharp , I’m standing outside Rachel’s apartment.

With flowers. And a reservation at one of the most romantic restaurants in Las Vegas.

Because I owe this woman a proper first date.

One that doesn’t involve fictional murders, actual thefts, or police interrogations.

Although knowing Rachel, she’d probably consider all three an improvement.

The door opens. And holy shit. She’s gorgeous. Like always.

She’s wearing a dress that hugs every delicious curve of her body. Her hair falls around her shoulders. And when she smiles at me, I swear my heart actually stops.

“Detective.”

“Rachel.”

She looks at the flowers. Then back at me. “Oh, you’re good.”

I grin. “I try.”

She accepts the bouquet. Then steps closer. “Before we go, I have one very important question.”

“Of course you do.”

“Did you solve the case?”

I laugh. “Yes.”

Her eyes widen. “OH MY GOD!”

She practically tackles me. I catch her.

And when she throws her arms around my neck, I decide that solving crimes has never been quite this rewarding.

“Tell me everything!”

“Can’t.”

She gasps. “BRONSON!”

“Sorry. It’s an active investigation.” I brush the hair away from her cheek. “But I’ll tell you everything as soon as I can.”

“You’re killing me!”
