Working thirty-six hours straight. Chasing a suspect down an alley without waiting for backup. Agreeing to participate in a charity bachelor auction.

But following a gorgeous woman upstairs at three in the morning?

That’s a decision I have absolutely no intention of regretting.

Especially when that woman is Rachel.

She’s approximately four steps ahead of me, digging through her purse for her apartment keys. And giving me an absolutely spectacular view of her ass.

I’ve been thinking about getting my hands on those curves since the moment I saw her at the auction.

Now she’s invited me inside.

And I’m trying very hard to remember that I’m a gentleman.

Mostly.

“Aha!” she announces triumphantly.

She produces a key.

I grin.

“Excellent detective work.”

“Thank you. I’ve been practicing.”

She unlocks her door and steps inside.

Then turns toward me.

“Well, Detective?”

I raise an eyebrow.

“Yes?”

“Are you coming in, or do I need to issue a warrant?”

I laugh.

“Pretty sure that’s not how warrants work.”

“Don’t ruin my fantasy.”

Oh, sweetheart. If she wants a fantasy, I’m more than happy to oblige.

Rachel’s apartment is exactly what I expected.

And absolutely nothing like I expected.

It’s colorful. Comfortable. Filled with books, photographs, and approximately seventeen decorative pillows.

There’s a collection of true-crime books on a shelf beside the television.

Naturally.

And a framed photograph of Rachel and her brother sitting on a kitchen counter.
