She smiles against my mouth. “Well, Detective.”

“Yeah?”

She pulls my face to hers for another kiss. “I suggest you start investigating.”

RACHEL

I’ve officially decided that being suspected of grand larceny is a perfectly acceptable price to pay for the best first date of my life.

Especially when that date involves Detective Bronson Hughes.

And his mouth. Oh, that mouth. I’ve been thinking about it ever since he kissed me.

Which is probably why it takes me several minutes to realize we’re not heading toward my apartment.

“Where are we going?”

Bronson glances at me. “Dinner.”

“Detective, it’s almost one in the morning.”

“Your point?”

“Most restaurants are closed.”

He grins. “Good thing we’re in Las Vegas.”

Fair enough.

I settle back against the passenger seat and admire his profile. That jaw. Those shoulders. Those enormous hands wrapped around the steering wheel.

I wonder whether he’d let me examine his fingerprints.

For educational purposes, obviously.

“You’re staring.”

“I’m observing.”

He laughs.

I lift my chin. “I learned that from a very handsome detective.”

“Sounds like a smart guy.”

“He’s all right.”

He reaches across the console and takes my hand. And I’m not thinking about fingerprints anymore.

Twenty minutes later, we’re sitting in a booth at an all-night diner. We’ve ordered enough food to feed a small army.

Bronson is watching me with an expression of profound amusement.

“What?” I ask.

“Nothing.”
