“Uh, newsflash. I do scan the socials, and it’s all over them.”

“Already?”

I blink as she holds out her phone and I hear someone speaking quickly into the camera with an image of us behind her when we were dancing at the gala.

Hollywood’s newest power couple. Giovanni is hardly cold and Sophie is being consoled by the dazzling Jason Prince, the AI super king.

“Oh my God.”

The blood drains from my face and she shrugs.

“It’s okay. Nobody would blame you. He’s seriously hot.”

“This is a disaster.”

I shake my head and lean forward, whispering, “What if that crazy guy sees this? He’ll go after Jason next.”

“He’d have to be good. That guy has bodyguards for his bodyguards. He would never get close.”

“I received this.”

I show the photo I took of the note he sent and her eyes widen.

“Fuck, Sophie, this is serious shit. Have you told the police?”

“No.” I breathe fast. “It’s in hand.”

“Not the Angels.”

Bethan is the only one I have told about my involvement with them, and I nod, lowering my voice. “They have promised to find him. I trust them to do their job.”

“What about the cops?”

“They work slower.”

“And you’re still walking around town unprotected. What the hell is wrong with you?”

She does have a point, and I say in a whisper, “Is anyone watching me?”

She scans the room and whispers, “I think so. I mean, don’t look behind you, but there’s a man at the table by the door. He has a phone in his hand, but he hasn’t looked at it once or touched his coffee all the time I’ve been sitting here.”

“How do you know?”

“Because he’s seriously hot and I’m salivating over him. He hasn’t looked in our direction once, which is curious when he is obviously casing the joint.”

“Anyone else?”

She takes another look. “There’s a guy across the street leaning against a shop doorway. He has been there for ten minutes already, so whatever is in the window must be seriously interesting. I’m guessing he’s using the reflection.”

“You should be a cop, Bethan.”

She grins. “My application to the academy was rejected, courtesy of me punching my ex into the hospital.”

“I remember that. You’re a badass, Bethan.”

The twins’ father turned out to be a real douche and cheated on her almost from day one. He was also a total creep and manipulated her, making her in the wrong and forcing her to apologize to him. She should be a detective because she set up cameras in the apartment, a recording devise in his car and a fake profile on several dating apps.

She discovered his profile on all of them, and he messaged her several times, flirty as fuck. The recordings made for painful listening as he fucked women in his car and when she was working nights, in their bed.
