“A few days,” Moon said.
“And you never said anything?” Tempest asked.
“I didn’t know what my visions meant at the time,” Moon said. Chris swore. Mayhem felt Moon withdrawing. He reached under the table and took her hand, and her wolf immediately settled against his. Mayhem didn’t say anything. He just held onto Moon. Chris and Tempest both seemed to notice. Moon looked at him, and he squeezed her hand into his own, silently prompting her to keep going. She seemed to understand.
“I saw Mayhem too,” she breathed.
His chest tightened. “When?” he asked.
“Before the ambush,” Moon whispered to him.
The room vanished around him. “You knew that was going to happen to me?”
“No.” Her eyes widened. “I saw blood, silver, and a black wolf falling near the water.”
Mayhem swallowed. “You didn’t know it was me.”
“No,” she said.
“Moonlight,” he growled.
“I swear I didn’t know that it was you. I would have warned you, had I known.” He believed her, and more importantly, his wolf did too.
Chris stared at the table. “So she isn’t seeing random shit.”
“No,” Tempest said quietly.
“She’s seeing threats to the club,” Howler added.
Moon shook her head. “Not always.”
Chris looked up. “What else have you seen?” Moon’s gaze went to her, and Mayhem felt her hesitation. Chris seemed to notice too. “You’ve seen me.” Moon nodded, and the room changed.
Chris leaned back. “Great. Have you seen more than you’ve already told me about?” she asked. Chrome’s expression had gone completely blank, and Mayhem noticed that too.
Moon looked at Chris and shook her head. “I’ve told you just about everything.”
“Just about everything, or everything, Moon? Did you tell me everything?” Chris asked. Moon hesitated, and Chris pointed at her. “That, right there, tells me that you’ve left something out. What is it?”
Moon sighed. “You were crying.” Chris went still, and Mayhem looked toward Chrome. His jaw tightened.
“Was I hurt?” Chris asked.
“I don’t know,” Moon said.
“Was I scared?” Chris asked.
“I don’t think so,” Moon said, shaking her head.
“Then why was I crying?” Chris asked, pushing for answers.
Moon shook her head. “I couldn’t tell why you were crying.”
Chris nodded slowly. “Okay, I guess that’s my answer then.”
Tempest studied her VP. “You’re staying close,” she ordered.
Chris groaned. “Prez.”
