“Chris,” Moon breathed.
She smiled faintly. “I heard you.” Moon clearly didn’t believe her, and Mayhem definitely didn’t. Chris turned toward him. “You.”
“Me?” he questioned.
“Tempest wants you in church,” Chris said.
Mayhem frowned. “Thought I was confined to the clinic.”
“Tempest changed her mind.”
Moon immediately said, “No, he can’t leave the clinic. He’s not out of the woods yet.”
Chris looked at her. “Take it up with Prez.”
“I will,” Moon said.
“Figured,” Chris said.
Mayhem started toward the door, and Moon grabbed his arm. The black lines faded, and he stopped. She stared at his skin. “Damn it.”
Chris followed her gaze. “That happens every time?”
“Pretty much,” Mayhem said.
Chris’s expression turned thoughtful. “You two might want to figure out a way to stay close without holding hands constantly.”
Mayhem smiled. “I have ideas.”
Moon slapped his chest. “Ow.”
Chris barked out a laugh. “Walk.”
Moon grabbed her medical bag, and Mayhem raised an eyebrow. “You’re coming?”
“Of course,” Moon said. “You think I’m letting you walk down the hall alone?”
“It’s thirty feet away,” he said.
“You’re poisoned, and you might need a doctor,” she insisted.
“Right.” Mayhem leaned toward Chris. “She likes me.”
“I heard,” Chris mumbled as she led the way down the hallway.
Moon shoved past both of them. “Children.” Mayhem grinned and followed her to the main clubhouse. It looked different under lockdown. There was no music, no casual drinking, and no women scattered around laughing or playing cards. Weapons sat within reach, and the curtains were closed. The front doors were reinforced, and Dark Chaos members occupied every strategic point in the room. Silverfang brothers had joined them. They were two clubs, sharing one den. Mayhem felt something settle in his chest at the sight. This alliance had started because Howler and Tempest needed each other. Now it was something more. They had all become family, or the closest thing wolves like them allowed themselves.
Tempest stood at the head of the long table, and Howler sat beside her. Chrome leaned against the wall nearby. Mayhem dropped into a chair, and Moon sat beside him. Chris took her place at Tempest’s right. Mayhem noticed the room shifted around her. People listened when Chris moved. Dark Chaos was Tempest’s club; there was no question about that, but Christmas carried her own weight. Mayhem understood why she wore the VP patch.
Tempest looked around the room. “We’ve got two problems.”
Chrome raised a hand. “Only two?”
“Howler,” Tempest said his name, and it sounded like a warning.
“Let her finish,” Howler ordered.
Chrome lowered his hand, and Tempest continued. “First, somebody is using what’s left of the Capitol Wolf’s people to target our clubs.” Her gaze moved toward Moon. “Second, we still don’t know who that somebody is.”
